WTF. What could possess someone to do something like this? I have screamed at people on my commute to work for tossing lit cigarettes on the road outside their car (or any cigarette for that matter), but this is 10 degrees more enraging than even that.

I thought we were blaming a lone, reckless, and callous cigarette smoker?

If this is in reference to my post a few up, wow. I was joking. If not, then carry on.

I have been trying my best to ignore the wildfires in Australia and I will do my very best to ignore the possibility that this was a premeditated action.

Can you imagine being the dude that threw the cigarette and started all of this?
I see it was you who said that and it looked like you were making a factual statement.

It certainly could start a fire like this.

I'm not going to make any guesses as to what started all of it as I have no idea... I do know if the people of Australia would just pick up a damn rake every once in a while, none of this would have ever happened.

I understand the joke here, and while that comment was ill-timed by Trump, that ill-fated environmental policy in California directly led to worse, faster spreading wildfires. As a matter of fact, this is from last week:

https://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/cali ... s/2283709/
California regulators said Tuesday that they have streamlined the state's permit process to make it faster to approve tree-thinning projects designed to slow massive wildfires that have devastated communities in recent years.

The state Board of Forestry and Fire Protection approved a vegetation management program based on more than a decade of analysis of the potential environmental damage from removing different types of fuel, ranging from alpine trees to chaparral.

That will allow new projects to use the preapproved environmental analyses rather than starting fresh each time to meet the requirements of the California's strict environmental laws.
Obviously that wasn't the cause of every wildfire, but it most certainly contributed to them spreading much faster, making the job of firefighters much more difficult (and dangerous). He wasn't wrong.

You know damn well there's a difference between forest management and what Trump said Finland does. But this is supposed to be non-political, so I'll just leave it at that.

Yeah, I'm just....... yeah.

Also, there's no possible way a single lit cigarette carelessly discarded could have sparked the Aussie fires.

Image

It's an area the size of Belgium that's burning, which is roughly 50x the size of the recent fires here in CA. It is an environmental disaster of unimaginable scale and consequence.

I thought you were referring to Cali. That's a reading fail on my part.

In "I can't believe this didn't happen in Florida" news:

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/vi ... e-n1111736
Video shows Las Vegas man, 93, open fire on apartment maintenance worker [over water issue]

A 93-year-old man shot at an employee at his Las Vegas apartment complex, in a chilling attack caught on surveillance cameras, authorities said Monday.

The gunfire erupted Thursday morning at the Vista Del Valle complex, police said, just blocks away from the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, where the World Series of Poker's final table is played every summer.

As bad and terrible as this is, the ones that survive will have no habitat to return to in 2-3 months once the fires are quelched.

I give little **** about the Royal Family, but find it interesting and kind of shocking that Harry and Meghan Markle apparently just threw the double bird at the Royal Family and said "We quit". I didn't even know that was possible.
