There is a jumper on an overpass across the 101 in Hollywood, which has shut the freeway down and basically cut the city in half. He's been up there since midnight; at this point I'm sorta hopeful they just shoot the guy.

An armed shoplifting suspect in Colorado barricaded himself in a stranger's suburban Denver home in June 2015. In an attempt to force the suspect out, law enforcement blew up walls with explosives, fired tear gas and drove a military-style armored vehicle through the property's doors.

After an hours-long siege, the home was left with shredded walls and blown-out windows. In some parts of the interior, the wood framing was exposed amid a mountain of debris.

A federal appeals court in Denver ruled this week that the homeowner, who had no connection to the suspect, isn't entitled to be compensated, because the police were acting to preserve the safety of the public.

Some more interesting context for the Colorado police thing.

The suspect, Robert Jonathan Seacat, had stolen a shirt and a couple of belts from a Walmart in neighboring Aurora, Colo., and then fled in a Lexus, according to a police affidavit. A police officer pursued him in a high-speed chase until Seacat parked his car near a light rail station, hopped a nearby fence leading to the interstate, and then crossed five lanes of traffic on foot. He climbed the fence on the other side — and then, shortly thereafter, came upon the Lech residence.

I do question the wisdom of engaging in a high-speed chase over petty theft. Nationally, I think under 10% of police pursuits are of persons suspected of violent acts. The vast majority are initiated over minor offenses like moving violations, which often escalate into more dangerous activity.

So there are two ways to look at this, and both you and @MR25 are correct.

There is no question that this is satire and a direct response to what happened at Deadspin. That being said, your point stands too. Even as satire, if this was written about the USWNT by a cis male, you can bet your ass there would be a shtstorm of epic proportions, all culminating in screams for his termination.

Instead, because it's another Jezebel feminist writer, the response will be (and already has been), "That is hilarious!" and "Solidarity with Deadspin!". In a total vacuum, I can actually appreciate this "article", because it does a good job highlighting the absurdity of the stuff going on at whatever Gawker media is now. It's well-done satire, even if it's as subtle as a hammer. But in the context of woke culture and people's lives getting ruined over writing stuff far, far less out there than this about "marginalized" groups, it's not as funny.
