Prosecutors in Spain said Friday they would ask a court to sentence Colombian pop star Shakira to eight years and two months in prison, if she is convicted in her expected trial for alleged tax fraud.

Shakira, whose full name is Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, is charged with failing to pay the Spanish government 14.5 million euros ($15 million) in taxes between 2012 and 2014. The prosecutors said they would also seek a fine of 24 million euros ($24 million).

The indictment details six charges against Shakira. The singer this week rejected a settlement deal offered by prosecutors, opting to go to trial instead. A trial date has yet to be set.

Her publicists in London said in a statement Friday that Shakira “has always cooperated and abided by the law, demonstrating impeccable conduct as an individual and a taxpayer.” The publicists accused the Spanish Tax Agency of violating her rights.

Shakira’s Spanish public relations team said earlier this week that the artist has deposited the amount she is said to owe, including 3 million euros in interest.

Prosecutors in Barcelona have alleged the Grammy winner spent more than half of each year between 2012 and 2014 in Spain and should have paid taxes in the country.

Shakira recently ended an 11-year-long relationship with FC Barcelona star Gerard Piqué, with whom she has two children. The family used to live in Barcelona.

There's zero chance in hell Shakira has paid any bill herself for like three decades let alone filing her taxes.

Spain is constantly claiming stars don’t pay their taxes, then come up with some insane jail time number that never happens

They did it to Messi and Ronaldo. And nothing happens.

There's not a place in hell big enough for those who would take advantage of the elderly, particularly dementia patients.

fortunately Ann Heche didn't kill any humans or animals.
Witnesses told TMZ Heche first crashed her blue Mini Cooper into the garage of an apartment complex.

Residents of the complex tried to get Heche out of her vehicle, but she sped away and crashed into the home a short time later, TMZ reports.
Yeah, she was definitely under the influence. I saw Alec Baldwin, Rosanna Arquette and others are getting dragged for coming out to support her.

I also read about that horrible accident in LA prior to the weekend. A traveling ICU nurse drove her Mercedes into an intersection at what appeared to be about 100 mph. Just terrible, throw the **** book at her.

The various municipalities have banned tents/shades along the beaches for safety and "visibility" issues. Of course, most of these same municipalities rent their own umbrellas/beach chairs and so on. And they use lifeguards to manage those programs (which is problematic in and of itself) I wonder if it was a city-owned umbrella?

Anne Heche suffered an anoxic brain injury in the crash. She's only being kept alive to determine which of her organs are suitable for donor harvest.

I wonder what the top of that umbrella looked like? I feel like ours aren't sharp... Granted, if it gets enough velocity anything can impale you.

I assumed it was tumbling and the bottom of the shaft is what impaled her. With or without sand digger.

Pittsburgh-based craft distillery Wigle Whiskey announced Thursday that it will be selling its operation to Pittsburgh Pirates owner and multi-millionaire Bob Nutting.

Wigle operates a distillery in the Strip District that produces whiskey, gin and other spirits. The company also runs a facility in Spring Garden that produces hard cider and mead for its Threadbare brand.

In a press release, Wigle and its sister company Threadbare Cider and Mead said they have entered an agreement of sale to Pittsburgh Spirits, an entity owned by the Nutting family.

8-year-old’s lemonade stand shut down outside Alliance festival
ALLIANCE, Ohio (WJW) – Eight-year-old Asa Baker has spent the hot summer days running a lemonade stand, mostly from in front of her family’s home just outside of the Alliance city limits.

“It’s fun and you get lots of people,” said Asa, saying where she lives a lot of truckers stop to buy some lemonade or treats from her stand, many times leaving more than the $1 a glass she charges.

“Especially on a country road, I get a lot of people,” she said.

During the city of Alliance’s Rib and Food Festival this past weekend, Asa asked her father if she could set up her stand outside of the downtown business where he works, in an alley about half a block from the festival.

With the permission of the business owner, Asa set up her stand.

Later, she says she saw a police officer coming toward her thinking he was going to buy some lemonade. Instead, he asked her to shut it down.

“Well, they were really sad that they had to shut me down but they gave me $20 to try and pay for it,” said Asa, who said that the $20 was intended to be used to buy a permit which she didn’t have.

“I could definitely tell he did not want to shut her down, but, I mean, you get a call, he has to do it. He definitely did the right thing, you know, in the situation he was put in,” said Katrina Moore, Asa’s mother.

“We looked it up and it was pretty much anywhere in Ohio. You have to have a license and I’ve never heard of that,” said Kyle Clark, Asa’s Dad.

He is right. In 2019, FOX 8 reported that there are only 14 states in which a permit or license is not required to sell lemonade at a lemonade stand.

Although police, with rare exception, are not going to enforce it, Ohio is not one of those states.

Alliance Police Lieutenant Don Wensel says the city is not out targeting kids running lemonade stands, but in this case, there was a complaint from the festival organizers who seemed incredibly torn themselves about filing the complaint.

Once that complaint was filed, the police department is obligated to enforce the city’s ordinances.

In the codified ordinances of the city of Alliance, it clearly states that any vendor must procure a license before opening.
lol, get ****. I can't imagine being that much of a Canaan to call the police about a **** lemonade stand. A business used a tip jar to raise cash for the license, which she now has.

First the Somerset DA is charged with sexual assault, now a former magisterial judge's office is raided for child porn.
SOMERSET, Pa. – Somerset Borough police, acting on a tip, seized computers and computer equipment from a Somerset attorney’s office on Wednesday in a hunt for child pornography, authorities alleged.

Officers executed a search warrant at Jon A. Barkman’s office at 116-118 N. Center Ave. and seized a computer, computer towers, hard drives, CDs, DVDs, a thumb drive, VHS cassettes and a sex toy, according to a receipt listing the items that allegedly were taken.

According to the affidavit of probable cause contained in the search warrant application, the investigation began on May 26 when Marc Valentine, owner of the building, told police he had become increasingly concerned after twice finding child pornography on Barkman’s computer monitor.

Police interviewed Barkman’s family and two of his former employees who revealed that Barkman does “engage in the deliberate, purposeful, voluntary and/or possession of child pornography” using his office computer, tablet, iPad, PDAs and cellphone, the affidavit alleged.

One hard drive was found in an unlocked safe under a secretary’s desk.

A former employee told police that from 2020 to 2022, Barkman – a former district magistrate judge – viewed child pornography daily with images so disturbing, she would shut off the computer, the affidavit said.

The search warrant was issued by District Judge Kenneth Johnson, of Somerset.

No charges have been filed.

“It involves a client, and it’s a confidential matter,” Barkman said by phone Thursday.
