Hot Dogs - How Often Do You Eat Them?
1-2 times a month. I usually buy a pack of Nathans 1/4 lb'ers when I'm at Sam's Club.

One of the very few things I get nostalgic for from PA, is the (what I'm guessing used to be) $0.99 chili dog from Sheetz. I'd have a couple after playing hockey, almost without fail.
Those were the days...I remember eating four of those at a clip.

cookout item for me. Don't really buy them for any other reason.
I probably have them about 3-4x a year, all between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Friendly advice: If you go to a Johnstown Chiefs game and they score 7 goals, allowing you to go to a local Sheetz that night and claim a free hotdog with your ticket stub, and you arrive at said Sheetz and the Erie Panthers' team bus is in the parking lot...... don't thank them for the hotdog. One of the very few things I get nostalgic for from PA, is the (what I'm guessing used to be) $0.99 chili dog from Sheetz. They use spaghetti, but I believe we're both referring to the same Skyline.

You can buy the Skyline chili at Wal-Mart. It's what we do the one or so times a year we make chili dogs at home.

Especially if said Erie Panther was Greg Spenrath.Friendly advice: If you go to a Johnstown Chiefs game and they score 7 goals, allowing you to go to a local Sheetz that night and claim a free hotdog with your ticket stub, and you arrive at said Sheetz and the Erie Panthers' team bus is in the parking lot...... don't thank them for the hotdog.

On average probably 1-2 times per month.
I've tried to become much more conscious of healthy eating as I've gotten older but as someone who grew up with them, Smith's hot dogs remain one of my last big food vices, especially in the summer.

probably say that about half of their team.Especially if said Erie Panther was Greg Spenrath.Friendly advice: If you go to a Johnstown Chiefs game and they score 7 goals, allowing you to go to a local Sheetz that night and claim a free hotdog with your ticket stub, and you arrive at said Sheetz and the Erie Panthers' team bus is in the parking lot...... don't thank them for the hotdog.
Looking back at their rosters from the late 80s/early 90s, half of their roster would have players with 100+ PIM. Spenrath's 90-91 season was quite impressive though: point per game player (65 pts in 61 games) with over 400 PIM.

I think this would've been somewhere around 92-94.

This amuses the F out of me. The Tripod URL, the one-stop shop for everything you want to know about Erie professional hockey, etc.

the tripod sites were great for that "where are they now?" stuff back in the day.
Problem was it was usually a season or two out of date.

Also, my favorite childhood local player, during his 1979-81 stay with the Blades:

I was a huge Spenrath fan, but my favorite all-time Panthers player was Daryl Harpe.
Real Godin, as well...funnier than hell if you could understand him. We used to joke that Real Godin knew precisely four words of English - "Ronnie" (coach Ron Hansis), "beer", "Lefty's" (Tavern), and "girls".
Man, this is tugging at the old heartstrings.
The Erie Panthers were my first real introduction to hockey thanks entirely to my uncle. I got into hockey when I was like 11 years old. This was circa '86 or '87; on whatever cable package we had, I'd occasionally catch a Hockey Night in Canada broadcast that I think was patched in through some London, ONT station that we had.
But the first live games I saw were Erie Panthers games with my uncle starting in 1988-89 and holy hell were those fun. The rivalry with Johnstown was awesome just by itself.
Unfortunately, my uncle passed away in November 2017. For as much as I've always enjoyed going to Penguins games and getting back to Erie for Otters games, nothing still beats the memories of going to Panthers games with him.
