It was nothing but what amounted to stylistic nitpicks imo.

Meanwhile, one truly legitimate filmic gripe - the compressed timeline of Han & Leia's escape from Hoth to Bespin, compared to Luke learning to Jedi in the same amount of time - is not even mentioned.

A New Hope is the best standalone movie. Empire is the best Star Wars movie. If that makes any sense.

It really doesn't

That's what I admire most about EpV and RO. They are really really good - even great - movies that don't need to be in the Star Wars universe to succeed. Their stories are more ubiquitous. All the other SW films sort of rely on being SW films..... and, weirdly, the other film that comes closest to achieving that imo is Solo, but it is undone for other reasons.

I've bandied about this with Shaf as regards Bond films; the reason why I like Casino Royale so much is that it is a very good movie that just happens have James Bond in it.

ANH can stand on its own without any knowledge of the story prior or following the story of the film. Empire is really a part 2 of a larger story. There’s no real conclusion as it ends on a cliffhanger. They also assume you already know the characters so the first act is more about setting up where each character is in the story rather than setting up the characters themselves. It can’t really stand on its own. It’s still my favorite Star Wars movie.

:face: I just saw your edit.

ANH is the only one that works as a standalone movie imo.

A few co-workers wished everybody a happy May the 4th on our morning call. It then resulted in a long discussion about Star Trek for some reason?

 I held my tongue when they talked about the "new" Star Trek with Chris Hemsworth. I mean, it's technically correct I guess. But clearly she meant Pine.

The first episode of "Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian" also dropped today on D+. It's an "eight episode documentary series that pulls back the curtain on The Mandalorian" including interviews, BTS footage, and roundtable conversations hosted by Favreau. Haven't watch it yet but might be interesting.

Clone Wars ended very well. Really different feel to those last four episodes than anything that preceded it in the series. Long scenes with just heavy score. Filoni hit it out of the park imo.

Loved how it all tied into Revenge of the Sith. A proper ending to the series IMO, better than the Netlfix Season 6 ending or the Season 5 before that.
