Watched the first two episodes of Rebels Se4 last night. Not bad. It was a decent setup to get things rolling, Mandalore is definitely primed to fight.
I came away with the thought that Mandalorians are apparently worse shots than Stormtroopers. The "fight" along the transports was a joke at best. I am now waiting for Clan "Stand right in front of them while hey are firing and you will be safe" to show up.

So.
Luke is going to die, isn't he? Very fitting this year. Very fitting for 2017 to end with the death of one of my lifelong favorite characters.
But that opening of the trailer, when he turns on the lights in the Falcon...chills.

The original plan was that Ep VII would be about Han, Ep VIII would be about Luke, and Ep IX would be about Leia. (Or rather that those characters would be fairly central to the stories) It was clear from the moment Harrison Ford said he was on board how Han's story was going to resolve. And Carrie Fisher's unfortunate passing ( ) means that her story can't resolve in the next film. Mark Hamill apparently was the last of the Three Amigos to sign on, so perhaps his reluctance was that he was not keen on his character meeting the same sort of end.

I'm not ready for dead Luke. I wanted badass, greatest-Jedi-of-all-time Luke from the EU.

What a **** year if Luke dies. Seriously. I know it's a stupid movie character, but man...I've been watching these films since I was 5 years old. It would totally bum me out if he dies. Hopefully, the trailers are being a little heavy handed...

They did a good job with the Force Awakens trailers not hinting in any way at Han's death. This is a red herring playing off the shock of the death of Han.

Han died in TFA, Leia will die in TLJ, so Luke will die in ... erm, Episode IX.

I would be way more emotionally distraught over the loss of Chewbacca for some reason.

So, Rebels has had three weeks in a row of double episodes.

Also, there is life beyond Episode IX: https://www.cnet.com/news/star-wars-epi ... d=44288133
"We're talking about the next 10 years of Star Wars stories, and we're looking at, narratively, where that might go," Kennedy said. "Future stories beyond 'Episode IX' with these new characters: Rey, Poe, Finn, BB-8 -- but we're also looking at working with people who are interested in coming into the Star Wars world and taking us to places we haven't been yet."

If the reaction shot of him on the Falcon at the end of TFA had been about three seconds longer, I think I might still be crying.

He's the SW family dog, and for the first time in 40 years he's a free agent. As it were.

Goddammit, now I'm sad again.

I did read that, and I kinda think he was talking figuratively.
Like she's the 'princess' of this trilogy.

Carrying over the discussion about 21CF selling to Disney.

https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2017/11/ ... s-we-want/

The rights reversion in 2020 includes the prequel trilogy (which I forgot, because of course I forgot something about the prequels). And the technical challenge of restoring the theatrical edits of the original trilogy (esp Ep IV) is one that would be fairly substantial. When they created the Special Editions, the actual negatives were altered (Ep IV in particular was in exceptionally poor condition for only being 20 years old at the time). So while there's no doubting a re-release of the OT in its desired form would be a license to print money, it would still require an enormous investment of time and money.

Is there anything from the SE trilogy that you'd want to keep in a new release? The escape from Mos Eisley was good, and the Death Star battle was worthy. I'm not sure anything in Ep V or VI would be worth keeping.

I prefer Ian McDiarmid's Emperor in the Ep V SE to the original chimpanzee eyed Emperor. I also like the window replacements on Cloud City. Not the fly-in, just the replaced windows.

I also like the addition of Episode IV A New Hope to the original film's crawl, though I know that came on a theatrical re-release in the early 80s, not the SE. And of course I like the cleaned up compositing that was mostly done in the THX releases.
