TLJ was an absolute mess of a movie. :pop:
:thumb:

The movie was full of nonsense.

1) Canto Bite (a full 15 minutes of nonsense).

2) Space Leia

3) Finn's entire arc, which would have worked if Rose didn't exist.

4) Poe's wasteful opening.

1) I know a guy who felt the movie was too preachy there. But as an action piece, I enjoyed it. Plus the homage to the long dolly shot in Wings was really cool.

2) Space Leia was really silly, and I concede it almost ruined things for me. But I got better.

3) Finn only had an arc at all because of Rose. In a certain sense, you could argue that Luke, Poe, and Finn are the only characters who actually have traditional arc journeys in the story. Everyone else sort of ends the movie the same as they started it. (Which is totally fine: In the first movie, Han is the only one who has a journey, and that movie turned out pretty okay.)

4) I believe you are tooling with us.

The needless comedy took me totally out of the movie, made the First Order look like clowns, not someone I need to worry about.

Finn's arc works if he flies into the door killer gun. Her saving him made no sense.

I absolutely did not get that at all from that scene. I mean, one, BB-8 with the "I've got a bad feeling about this" line is one of my all-time favorite SW moments. Two, it sets up the foundation of Poe's journey perfectly by showing just what an impetuous hot head he is. (Blowing up an entire planet with a tactical single-seat fighter might do that to a guy.) It's not like the forced not-comedy of anything Jar Jar Binks did in Ep I. When I got home from seeing it, I told Mrs Tif about how funny the first five minutes were, and then when we watched it on video, she agreed. So there.

I will say, having seen a few spoiler-free comments, if you did not like the comedy in TLJ, then I worry you might not like Solo.

Solo is supposed to be comedic. The stuff at the beginning of TLJ was slapstick goofiness.

Disney announced the opening "seasons" for Star Wars Galaxy's Edge. Disneyland will open summer of 2019 and Disney World will be late fall 2019.

If we keep to our every three year schedule, we'll be in WDW in 2021. My guess is it's going to be NUTS there for at least the first few years.

I just read two interesting rumors.

There was a recent casting call for Ep IX for a 40-50 year old female character called Mara. And Timothy Zahn is working on two new Thrawn books, but they're temporarily in limbo until IX is more sorted.

I would very much like to see those characters on screen. But I'm not sure the final installment of a trilogy is the way to introduce them, even if that's just a set up to a new line of films.

I'm ok with that if it's a setup for a 50 year old Ezra trilogy

I'm of two minds of on that. On the one hand, bringing characters from the animated shows into the films is the ultimate imprimatur of validity. On the other hand, it kind of undercuts other stuff from the show they were pulled from. Up to now, the crossover has really been sort of limited to fan service cameos, so either way it would be a departure to have any of the characters featured in a saga film.

I'd like a Stephen King Gunslinger kind of movie(s) with Ezra chasing Thrawn across the galaxy. Ezra continuing to learn about the force on his travels. Ultimately, I don't care if it runs into the current storyline, but I suppose it would be cool seeing their adventures coming into what we have now.

I continue to hold out hope that someday we will see Benedict Cumberbatch play a live action Thrawn.

Thanks to your post, I just realized that Solo is out this weekend and I have zero plans to see it. It'll likely be the first Star Wars released during my lifetime that I haven't seen on opening weekend.

We were in Singapore when TLJ was released, and we saw literally dozens of people wearing SW stuff. (Including me)

Rewatching TLJ.

I really wish they'd killed Leia at the bridge.
