Star Wars discussion (SPOILERS INCLUDED)

Being of a certain age, I grew up with the early films. I hated all the prequels, but I have liked the nostalgia of 7 and 8. I know most call it a rehash, but I watch them and I feel 10 or 12 years old again. This trailer, with all the old films included, got me and I'm ALL IN.

A couple other things have dawned on me with subsequent looks at trailer 2.

* Definitely Death Star wreckage where Rey and Ren are fighting (you catch a glimpse of a turbo laser tower)

* WTF with the red eyes, Threepio?

* The music that bookends the trailer is Yoda's theme at the beginning and Rey's theme at the end. That seems significant.

* Rey is the only Force user to wield a red bladed lightsaber who was not conclusively under the sway of the Dark Side (briefly in Snoke's throne room), and now she's built herself a double ended red saber. And they're doubling down on that by reusing the TFA footage of the red and blue blade glows clashing on her face.

One other thing I noticed is that right before the shot of Rey at the end and right after you hear Palpatine speak, you hear what sounds like a broken-up or labored breath from Vader.

Re: Threepio's red eyes. I've seen a few theories. I saw some suggest Threepio was hacking into a First Order system and for some reason, it turned his eyes red. I also read a theory that he got hacked or was even re-programmed by the First Order.

One thing I've noticed about the trailer and this new stuff released today - R2D2 has been completely absent from the group shots. There was the closing shot in the first trailer when the group is coming down the grassy hillside right before they show the partially submerged piece of the Death Star II. In that shot, BB8 and the new droid are in it, but no R2. In this new footage, there's the shot where most of the group overlooks the village and still no R2.

My theory is that R2 is probably with Leia at whatever and wherever the Resistance base is these days. But I do find it interesting, especially with this being a movie that JJ said will tie the entire saga together and both Threepio and R2 have always seemed to be constants.

OMG, the storytelling symmetry is depressing me.

How did this whole 40-year adventure start? Leia kneeling down in front of Artoo after recording the "you're my only hope" message. It would be entirely fitting that they met their Makers together.

I hope it ends with a CGI Kenny Baker popping out of R2 at the end and saying "Surprise, I was in here the entire time" and then fades to black and credits roll.

I can't believe I forgot about this until now, because I really got into the Aphra series before falling behind on it around Christmas. I need to get back into that series.
