Star Wars discussion (SPOILERS INCLUDED)

Yeah, don't get me wrong, I'm all for something completely different far away from the Skywalker's. I do feel like while it's full of familiar faces and places, it's still telling a new story to me. Maybe I'm not describing this very well and maybe it is more like filling in pieces of something we already know, but it does feel different. Mando 2.0 does seem accurate, but I'm ok with that for now since this is basically picking up from where we left him in Mando while piecing together his past. I have a feeling that this will end up connecting pretty well with the overall story they are telling with these new shows

I'm going to try again. I do feel like it's a continuation of the Mando world and story and I thought that was the plan, so it's not really unexpected to me.

BOBF doesn't feel like Mando at all imo. It's a different visual language, different vibe (feels more like a Scorsese gangster movie than a Western) From the very first episode of Mando you were like "Oh I'm in, let's see where this goes." We're 2 hours in to BOBF and I frankly do not give a s**t what the third hour has in store.

I very much disagree that they don't feel alike. The visual language is the same. The tone or vibe is the same. You may be less into the story but that's not because it's different. I'd argue that you're less into it because it is the same and at this point you'd rather continue Mando's story than Boba Fett. You could replace digitally replace Fett with Mando and you would have no way of telling what series this is.

I think that's absolutely fair tif (not that's it different, just not as engaging), I'm definitely not as engaged as I was to Mando, but I thought 2nd EP was a step in the right direction and I am looking forward to seeing where it goes. I may not have the emotional attachment so far to this like Mando, but I am digging the ride after last night mich more so than after the first, so hopefully that continues and this will all become part of something bigger

I laugh out loud when the end credit music starts playing and then 10 seconds later I'm singing along

Couldn't disagree more. The shows are shot differently, edited differently, scored differently, the stories are tonally quite drastically different (BOBF has so far been like 2/3 flashback), the goals and motivations of the main characters are super different. You can tell within 30 seconds that this is a different story world. We're not meant to relate to Boba Fett the same way we are meant to relate to Din Djarin, even if you could draw a through line of 'patriarch' between the two. It has two very different meanings in the two shows.

The main thing I've gleaned from BOBF (and to a lesser extent Mando) is that I think I'd rather see a show about Tuskens than Boba Fett.

Ming-Na Wen remains a boss, however.

I think we're going to have to agree to disagree because we are so far on opposite ends here. I even just listened to both main themes and they could easily exist on the same OST. I mean, they even share the same composer. The flashback structure might be the only way the shows are different structurally but that's not enough to set them apart. Story structure does not affect tone, imo. I'm not saying that Fett and Mando have the same character motivations. They live in the same world, obviously, and the story to me could easily be a Mando story. You can't see a Mandalorian episode where he is captured by Tuskens, befriends them, and eventually helps them overcome an obstacle? That's like every episode of the Mandalorian. How was that episode different because it was Fett not Mando?

Disney found a formula that worked and they stuck with it almost to a t.

I don't want to derail the thread, but I had no idea until the second episode that Jennifer Beals was the Twi'lek cantina owner.

The guy who works for the mayor is incredibly annoying as well. My wife and kids were kinda shocked at how much I liked this episode because I said whoa that's awesome about 6 times. I love getting ripped and watching these shows, I may be in my own world watching, but it's always a good watch for me. It will be interesting to hear details of how this all came together, i definitely feel like we are getting a Mando movie that didn't get made (flashbacks) along with Mando S3 not being a go and then bringing in someone who can get something done fast (Robert Rodriguez) vibe from it all. I am enjoying it and I hope it turns around for everyone else too

Also Mando Se3 started shooting in October, concurrent with Pedro Pascal's work on The Last Of Us.

But I can give credit to BOBF for giving us Tosche Station. At least there's that.

The scene where Boba beats up the biker gang and steals their bikes. That's Tosche Station. It's a callback to a deleted scene in Ep IV.

The two people he saves are Luke's friends.

We watch nearly everything with captions on, and I wondered why a seemingly random bar patron was named in that scene. Very cool, not aware of that deleted scene.

This is one of the best 'inside baseball' movie making videos of ever, and shows how Star Wars was great sort of despite George Lucas' efforts. His version of what we now know as Ep IV would've been borderline unwatchable.
