With so much that happened, how cool was it seeing the tie fighters launch like that?
though admittedly it did look like an accident waiting to happen

Very Battlestar Galactica.
Nice nod to Katee Sackhoff.

Knew it was Luke the second a single X-wing showed up. Seeing R2 was awesome obviously. Was hoping Din would pull out the knob at the end and Grogu would catch it before the door closed.

Teared up a little when Din removed his helmet and Grogu got to see his face.

Moving forward I'm interested to see what happens with Din and the Dark Saber. Moff Gideon in custody should make for some possibly interesting story lines

I made the same comment to my family. Weird to be excited about something as basic as that, but they put in the effort on this series.

Maybe Kylo attempting to kill Grogu is what he meant by finishing what Vader started since Grogu survived Anakin slaughtering the Younglings

I forgot to mention the helmet. This is now multiple episodes where wearing the helmet wasn't the Way. All kinds of "oh, that's important" stuff tossed in the bin in season 2.

I also liked the pure hate scowl Bo-Katan had on her mug when she saw Din holding the Darksaber.

It was significant that Din's last words to Grogu were "Don't be afraid". Think to ESB when Luke tells Yoda, "I'm not afraid," and the Master replies, "You will be.... you will be." It's a nice echo, as fear is the first step on the path to the Dark Side.

According to Wookieepedia, Luke established his Jedi Academy and began training Ben Solo when the kid was 10 years old. That's roughly where we are now, with Grogu in tow.

Saw something last night that Luke Force-crushing the Dark Trooper was sort of a significant move, because that's not something a Light Jedi would do. Not sure I follow that logic.... I mean, I don't think a Light Jedi would do that to a person, but a battle-bot?

I really liked how we've seen Din's belief system evolve over the two seasons. It started early on with his decision to rescue The Child from Dr Pershing and The Client, violating the rules of the Bounty Hunters' Guild. And it has continued through his initial rejection of Bo-Katan because she took her helmet off in his presence, to him recognizing that perhaps there are more important things in the world (like Grogu) than devotion to black-and-white rules that in the real world really don't make any sense whatsoever. The Way, it seems, is fungible. I'm down with that.

There was an undercurrent of this in The Heiress chapter, but Bo-Katan seems much more power-grabby now vs when she was last seen in Rebels. Like she sees herself as 'The Mandalore', one in the same with the planet/people. She had a very the-enemy-of-my-enemy-is-my-friend vibe. The look of sheer disgust and fury on her face when Moff Exposition was explaining the Darksaber to Din was exquisite. That will be fertile ground for Season 3 imo, and I think the show will veer towards the restoration of Mandalore as the driving plot.

Not the slightest bit interested in a Boba Fett-centered story that spans more than a couple chapters.

I think a Bobba Fett stand-alone works if you do a kind of Sons of Anarchy thing.

RotJ was about 4 ABY. Mandalorian is 9 ABY. Ben would be a max of 4. 4ish ABY + yearish to get prego and gestate, born in 5ish ABY at the earliest.

My youngest looks up to me after the episode and says, pa, I hope next season is like all the Indians coming after Mando like that Crow killer Jeremiah Johnson and I knew right there and then, that I was a good dad.

Speaking of next season, it’s weird that this series is continuing for at least 2 more seasons. That felt like a series finale, not a season finale. Can Mando carry the show without the child storyline? I have my doubts.

Yeah, they're still a few years away from the Jedi Temple. I just meant that we're in that period where Luke is exploring the galaxy and researching the history of the Jedi, finding the Sacred Texts, and whatnot.

They don't express the time in TROS for when Luke was training Leia, but she surrendered her lightsaber when she had a vision of her son dying at the conclusion of her training...... without any further explanation, we must assume that at this point in time Ben has already been born, or she was at least preggers with him. So does that mean Grogu is Luke's first Padawan?

I agree with this, but I think the Bo-Katan/Darksaber/Mandalore thing is interesting enough to sustain a couple seasons in its own right.
