This comes up now & then - while restoring the films for the 1997 Special Editions, they had to go back to original audio material, and in this case it had degraded to the point where it wasn't really useable. Rather than go with sub-standard audio (which does get noticed in a cinema screening), they used a different take and line.

Technical decision, not a creative one, it would have been left alone otherwise. Apparently there's a few others - I've heard that the removal of "Bring my shuttle" was initially for the same reason, but they went a bit further with the change.

That's one of the reasons why we aren't likely to see a re-release of the OG OT any time soon. When they made the Special Editions, they found the negs were all but unusable, and in striking new negs to work from as masters they only created negs with the new footage. Granted, loosing the OT into the wild in its original unaltered state would be a license to print money, but it's still a super labor-intensive process that would cost tens of millions of shareholder dollars to do, which isn't as much of a consideration when you're a billionaire spending your own time and money on the project.

That said, I have a bit of a hard time believing that a guy with such a keen eye for tech and cinema history was storing his material in conditions that would lead to that kind of degradation in barely twenty years.

Given Dave Filoni's involvement with Mando, and that we know she survives the Rebellion period, I wouldn't be surprised if she shows up. Heck, we've already seen Lothcats have a cameo, so cross-threading with the animation world is an established thing.

I still have the sequel trilogy to go, but after watching 1,2,3,RO,Solo,4,5,6, I can say without question that Empire is leaps and bounds above all the others. Empire was always my favorite and I knew it was the best of the bunch, but I never realized just HOW much better it is than the rest.

Sidenote, Lucas murdered Return of the Jedi with the special edition.

People hated that the heroes were separated for 90% of the runtime, and that it ended on two downer cliffhangers, one of which was so unnerving to audiences they had to give Yoda the line "Your father, he is" in EpVI to reinforce that, yes, we're serious about this.

Unadjusted for inflation, it was - by far - the lowest-grossing Saga film. (Adjusting sorta skews the record, as V came out in mid-1980 when inflation was astronomical)

And yet without Empire, I don't think the Star Wars series would have been elevated to legendary status. ANH sets up the world and introduced everybody to Star Wars, but there's little substance there, and even less acting. Empire is **** perfect. It expands the world, expands the characters, allows the actors to act, allows the cinematographer to experiment, has a director there to actually direct the action, there's a point of view. It's not just plot, plot, plot. Empire makes ANH look like a children's movie.

It's so painful. It adds nothing to the movie other than a special effects display and computer animated characters from 1997 simply don't hold up to today's standard.

Even ignoring the special edition nonsense, Jedi is a very unbalanced movie. It's easily the weakest of the OT and while I haven't re-watched the sequel trilogy yet, I wouldn't be surprised is Jedi doesn't crack my top 5.

I agree with this completely with one exception: ANH is a kid's movie on its own merits, and does not require context.
