swapped out tickets from Saturday to Thursday. Cannot wait. Had to cancel a dinner because we probably need to be at the theater at least an hour early for good seats, right?!?!?
What kind of savage theater doesn't have reserved seating? The days of arriving super early for a movie to get a good seat should be long gone.

It's annoying enough when you're talking about your run-of-the-mill 400-seat multiplex auditorium. But there are cinemas in LA that seat 1400+ with balconies. It completely sucked, because you could get there 2 hours early and still have 300 people in line ahead of you.

That's why you go to the Arclight. Although I bet El Capitan will have a fun pre-show.

Cinemark has both reserved seating (XD) and regular. When I'm talking about $4 tickets for a family of 5, I have no issues arriving an hour early. Their reserved seats were all gone for this weekend, so it will have to do.

The Rangos Giant Cinema didn't have reserved seating. I'm expecting it to be a **** show.

Last year for the force awakens I took my twins to the earliest matinee @ 8:45am in the settlers ridge cinemark. Was able to buy tickets and wasn’t in a completely packed theater. I checked for Saturday AM shows for the last Jedi, and they remodeled to all reserved seating. Every seat in every theater is a recliner but it cut out half of the seats. Bogus.
My wife and I ended up doing this for Thor: Ragnarok. We hadn't been up to Cinemark-Settlers Ridge in close to a year (Monaca is closer for us), so I had no idea they remodeled and it was our first experience with the reserved seating.

It was terrific. At first, I was surprised at how many seats they took out but the recliners are a huge plus. We're going to do the same for Last Jedi on Saturday morning.

I've heard they're eventually going to be doing the same for most/all of their other theaters over the next 1-2 years.

While they are objectively great cinemas, ArcLight is kind of a sore spot with me. My best friend and I thought up the concept of ArcLight - top quality picture and sound, reserved stadium seating, a movie-themed gift shop, sit-down restaurant, full bar, etc. - in around 1995. We moved to CA a couple years later, and a few years after that we were sort of angrified when we heard about the construction of the first ArcLight in Hollywood at the Cinerama Dome. We were like, "Wait, that.... that's... our idea......!"

When they first opened, parking validation was good for four hours, but if you went over that time you were on the hook for the full time on the ticket. We went to see LOTR there, and decided to have dinner beforehand. Couple that with a 3-hour movie, and we ended up with a parking tab of close to $30. That was certainly not in our business plan, I can assure you.

And in 19 years, I don't think I ever set foot inside El Cap.

When are you going? We are Thursday for 7. I figured we'd go down around there and have an early dinner at about 3:30, then go over and get in line.

Something on their site or their ticketing site said they would allow people to line up an hour beforehand, but I cant imagine a way to enforce that.

The late showing on Saturday. It's still not sold out so it might not be too bad.

Went to an ArcLight for the first time a couple weekends ago to see Thor. Got a Guinness to take into the theater. Refilled it with World Wide Stout during the movie. Second time I have been able to do that (beer).
Good times.

press screenings ending shortly, this is probably a good time to start avoiding social media if you plan on seeing it this week.

:thumb: Thanks. Should we also expect spoilers in this thread, given the title?

There's no way we can expect people to spoiler spoilers in this thread. The discussion would be impossible/annoying to follow. The ruling is: avoid the thread until you see the new movie

Decided I was going to prep for this weekend by watching all of the movies in chronological order. 10 minutes of The Phantom Menace changed that plan. I can't remember the last time I actually watched it but god damn I forgot how terrible this movie is.
