I watched Rogue One for the 5th or 6th time tonight. I remeber being underwhelmed when I saw it in the theatre, but it's getting better every time. It's terrific.

Yeah I think I need to get the Blu Ray... Loved it in theaters but really want to give it another watch.

One of my friends from work is editing a scholarly book on fan fiction and fandom in popular culture, so she's been researching a lot of Star Wars, Harry Potter, Doctor Who, and such (we had to order the Thrawn series for research 😁). We got to talking about how Rogue One was so good because it had the main characters had little or no connection to the main original trilogy story arc. It stands on its own, and you don't know the fate of most of the characters - they don't have to live to keep making movies or sell toys. Much more is at stake, making it more compelling to watch, and placing itself near the top of the Star Wars films.

That's a very good point about the merchandise thing. The movie stands on its own artistic merits. You don't have bullshit like porgs that are solely in the movie to sell stuffed animals.

Well, "eventually" turned out to be "very soon": I did watch Solo a second time and not only did I like it much better than the first time, I liked it a lot. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It gets better, like Rogue One, with more watches.

Everyone I know that's seen it twice feels the same.

Yeah, reading comments like this reaffirms two things for me:

1) They were wrong to stick to the May release date for Solo. I have no idea why they clung to that so fiercely.

2) LFL was right to re-up Kathy Kennedy, despite the public fuss over the last two movies.

Also, it bugs me that they continue to use the "You think everything is a bad idea" joke in advertising knowing full well that scene isn't in the movie. It's one thing to do it with a pre-release trailer, but to use a deleted scene in promoting the home video release is poor form imo.

(The main reason it bugs me is because I think it's a great gag that should not have been cut.)

The Mouse strikes again: Chuck Wendig got fired over vulgar/political tweets. He was in the middle of a comic series run, and was working on a couple of novels in the expanded universe. I enjoyed his recent books, including the Thrawn series (need to read the newest one that came out earlier this year).

One of the characters in Aftermath is gay, and the usual troglodytes came out and attacked him on Twitter and Swatted him as well. He lost his **** on a few, and now will write DC movies now? 😁

Wendig himself says it was Marvel's decision alone. (At least he believes so)

Social media is amazing for creators in that it finally gives them a direct line to their fans. Social media is horrible for creators in that it finally gives them a direct line to their fans.

Lucasfilm confirms the Boba Fett movie is 100% dead

Honestly this is a good call. Please give us movies with new characters.

I wouldn't be surprised if one of the reasons they killed that Star Wars 1313 game was because it was going to be a Boba Fett game (which was being made pre-Disney merger, and would mess with the new canon). Now the Boba Fett movie is killed. Ffs...

Wait wait wait wait wait...............

"....in order to focus their attention on Star Wars: Episode IX and a subsequent trilogy which would conclude the story of Rey."

It implies the Rian Johnson trilogy is another Rey arc. If that's accurate, this is sort of burying the lede, isn't it?

That’s nuts. I haven’t seen that mentioned anywhere. More Daisy Ridley is always a thumbs up from me.

Totally missed that. I also think that’s a smart move. No way there’s enough time to wrap up Rey’s story in only one more film.

That was one of my big concerns coming out of TLJ.

“I am really, really excited to do the third thing and round it out, because ultimately, what I was signing on to was three films,” she told Rolling Stone. “So in my head, it’s three films. I think it will feel like the right time to round it out.”
That is kind of concerning since Daisy herself said she only wanted to do 3 films...

As much as I would like to take a roll in the hay with Daisy, I’m not sure she’s gonna have much of a career post-Star Wars.

Also, they’ll pay her a ton of money to keep making movies.

The more I think about it, the I think that Flickering Myth article was just poorly written. I don't think the Johnson trilogy will feature Rey.
