Yep, and they filmed scenes at Death Valley in Clemson for a film about Ray Ray McElrathbey (I'm biased, but it's a pretty awesome story btw). I think it's supposed to be out early 2020.

Star Wars is a week away and there seems to be a lot of complaining in the news again. This time (at least from headlines popping up on my news feed) there appears to be some of the cast complaining? Is this just a normal thing going forward or could this movie be really bad and they are starting the the last jedi made it hard for JJ to make a good movie thing?

Yeah, I'm not OMGGGG NEED TO SEE IT OPENING NIGHT like I was for the last two films. I enjoyed Last Jedi, but not really excited for this new one. We'll see it opening weekend, of course, but we haven't bought tickets in advance like these others. It's weird.
As someone who's grown up with the films - I saw IV in theaters when I was 4-5 years old - I don't really want the Skywalker saga to end. Unfortunatley, I'm getting GoT final season vibes, like how are they going to mess this up for me, etc.

Yeah it's weird. I haven't heard any buzz - good or bad. I haven't seen the cast complaints that eddy mentioned. I got an email from Disney letting me know that it's a week away and I was shocked. It hasn't been on my mind at all. Part of that may be the Mandalorian effect. Baby Yoda is dominating Star Wars right now.

The snake household is pumped, kids have costumes ready to go, my youngest spent his birthday money on a Luke costume. We have watched everything up to TFA and TLJ and will try to play those into opening weekend. The thing I have always felt about JJ is that he makes enjoyable safe movies. I've read some things of him saying he's doing the opposite of that this time around because of a lot of what he loved about TLJ. I saw something about Boyega not being real happy about his role in TLJ and he was excited to get back to how JJ set up his character in TFA. I honestly haven't read much of the articles and was just going off headlines popping up. My favorite complaint about TLJ is how they split up everyone. I have a strong feeling that a lot of people complaining haven't even watched the OT in a long time.

I still haven’t watched The Last Jedi...and I loved The Force Awakens

I'll be excited to watch them both again within the next week, but TLJ is one of if not my favorite star wars movies.

My biggest complaint about TLJ was how they handled the questions/mysteries that were set up in TFA. It has some of the best stuff of the series, while also having some of the worst. It's far from my favorite film, but it's still miles ahead of the prequels.

TLJ is a giant mess from start to finish.

Wait are Rey's parents still a thing? I thought TLJ killed that.

I'm not sure that Kylo telling Rey that her parents are nobodies is something that should be taken as gospel.

It seems cheap to introduce a mystery in one, answer it in the next, then be like "jk lol it's really this" in the final one.

Therein lies the problem with how Disney approached these movies. JJ introduces mysteries in TFA, Johnson answers some mysteries in TLJ, third movie director is fired and and replaced by JJ, who maybe didn’t like how his mysteries were answered and now has the capacity to change them.

Has there been an outline of where this story is supposed to go from before TFA? The only thing I've read about was that each new director can do their own thing as long as they connect it with the story from the previous movie or something like that...It seems cheap to introduce a mystery in one, answer it in the next, then be like "jk lol it's really this" in the final one.

Right. I did like most of TLJ as a standalone film. As a sequel to TFA and the second chapter of a longer story? It didn't work at all.
Somehow it doesn't seem like Lucasfilm had the full story arc in place when they shot TFA.

I think it would be really cool to go into the force ghost stuff more. The Yoda/Luke stuff from TLJ was phenomenal.

The Force Awakens was released within three years of Disney acquiring Lucasfilm, so no, they definitely didn’t have things completed mapped out when they shot TFA.Right. I did like most of TLJ as a standalone film. As a sequel to TFA and the second chapter of a longer story? It didn't work at all.
