The animated series is top notch.

Rightly so imo. Lloyd was 8 years old...... which begs the question of who wants to see Darth Vader in 4th grade. The only acceptable version of that was in the VW ad a few years ago.He holds George Lucas solely responsible for the disaster that ensued.

I never got around to going to Harry Potter Land, or whatever they call it, at Universal despite having a view of it from my office for two years. As much as I want to see the Millennium Falcon in person, I think I'll be able to find the fortitude to hold off on going for the first call it five years until the crowds quiet down a skosh.

Pandora opened in May of 2017 and Flight of Passage is still nearly impossible to get a FastPass for unless you book over 60 days out. And that's **** Avatar. Galaxy's Edge is going to bring in a ridiculous amount of people who wouldn't normally be visiting the parks. I'd say five years for the crowds to quiet down is an underestimation.I never got around to going to Harry Potter Land, or whatever they call it, at Universal despite having a view of it from my office for two years. I am still in awe of my wife's planning capabilities with our trip. Going to Animal Kingdom on our LAST day so we could Fastpass 64 days out was a thing of beauty.Pandora opened in May of 2017 and Flight of Passage is still nearly impossible to get a FastPass for unless you book over 60 days out. Yup. Book the hardest to get fast passes for late in your trip. We did Animal Kingdom on the last day and Hollywood Studios next to last to get the new Toy Story Land rides in.

The cottage industry that exists around planning vacays at Disney properties is a goddamn marvel of modern consumerism.

It really is, my wife worked wonders when we went in 2017. We've had friends that buy the tickets, get the hotels/flights, and then walk up to the gate unaware of FastPasses and have a miserable time waiting in lines. Done right, line waiting is minimal for non-new rides. I highly recommend getting on Seven Dwarfs Mine Train during the fireworks...that was pretty awesome.
Star Wars discussion (SPOILERS INCLUDED)
We never really planned. But the eight or nine months we lived in Florida, my mom would take me up to Orlando probably every other weekend. Our move was to wait for the midday rains to hit - and they always hit - and then find the ride we hadn't been on in a while. There was never a line, because once the skies opened up people automatically broke for the open pavilions. At EPCOT, the two Communicores on either side of Spaceship Earth (do they even have those any more?) would be overrun with people escaping the rains, and we'd be calming walking in our $2 ponchos over to Journey Into Imagination or Horizons or whatever, and just walk right up to the load in.
Same with Sea World, except it was the dolphin feeding/petting tank where I once got bitten on the hand by a boy dolphin who took exception to the manner in which I was giving smelts to a girl dolphin.

I know some people absolutely hate how much planning is required for Disney but for me it's part of the fun. I can see how most people probably don't want to think about dining reservations 180 days before you even arrive in Florida or what rides you'll want to ride on what day 60 days before, but if you don't do that, you're going to have a bad time. For us, it's insanely fun and gets us hyped.
