Star Wars discussion (SPOILERS INCLUDED)

Postby tifosi77 » Wed Jun 20, 2018 1:26 pm

One of the SW sites I follow shared a story on Facebook about casting leak for Ep IX indicating something fairly major for one of the main characters. They thought using the spoiler-laden content of the actual leak as the headline for the post would be kosher, so anyone just casually scrolling their news feed would see this and not be able to avoid it. Swell.

It may be a while before we see any more movies like Solo: A Star Wars Story out of Lucasfilm. Sources with knowledge of the situation tell Collider that Lucasfilm has decided to put plans for more A Star Wars Story spinoff movies on hold, instead opting to focus their attention on Star Wars: Episode IX and what the next trilogy of Star Wars films will be after that film. Sources tell us that the previously rumored Obi-Wan movie was in active development, but those who were working on the film are no longer involved. It was recently reported that Logan filmmaker James Mangold was in early talks to write and direct the Boba Fett film, but that was before Solo’s release.

That's incredibly disappointing. Star Wars fans are doing a better job of ruining Star Wars than George Lucas ever did. And he invented Jar Jar.

Obi-Wan movie would be an easy box office win for Disney. Solo had issues behind the scenes, mediocre marketing, was too soon after TLJ, and a lead that people were very unsure of. An Obi-Wan movie would feature a beloved character and would star an actor who already played him for three movies. Don't release it 5 months after IX and show a commercial for it more than a month before release and they would be printing money.

The guy from Logan should have done Obi-Wan.

I think it depends on the environment. If it's a forum or reddit thread specifically discussing the movie, then spoilers should be expected (unless it specifically states spoiler-free). There also should be a time period where you realistically can't expect spoilers to be tagged as a spoiler.

The problem is that there are dadholes who get off on spoiling things for people just for the lols. Like the guy who drove by the Harry Potter book line and shouted "Snape kills Dumbedore" or posting specific spoilers about a popular new movie in a completely unrelated thread. Accidental spoilers happen and in most cases when I've been spoiled it's been my own fault - like reading movie specific threads. But the intentional spoiling of something just for kicks is annoying.

That falls under my second point of a time period where you realistically can't expect spoilers to be tagged as a spoiler. :slug:

Once a spoiler becomes a meme, it's no longer a spoiler. (See, People's Exhibit A: nearly everything about the second half of The Sixth Sense) It's just part of the fabric of pop culture, and the only person immune to that is dodint.

But there should be a realistic expectation of spoiler avoidance as a common courtesy. When Ep VIII came out, we were in southeast Asia, and had ten days to go on the trip. In that case, it was up to me to avoid anything spoilery, which wasn't super hard, since we were out and about and doing things and generally not online a whole lot. It was actually harder to keep away from spoilers for Solo for a weekend than it was to stay spoiler-free for Ep VIII for almost two weeks.

Hold the **** on. You're going to sit there with a straight face and tell me that traveling in a non-English speaking country and avoiding the internet makes it EASIER to avoid spoilers than chilling in your home country while actually using the internet?

Bullshit to you good sir. Complete bullshit.

So the Obi-Wan and Boba Fett movies are still on. LFL was apparently also developing a Mos Eisley-themed anthology film, and that is what was canceled. Which sounds like a good idea.

Like Tales from Mos Eisley?

I guess that could’ve been cool. But man I want some brand new stories.

Tales From Mos Eisley would make a killer AHS anthology series.

Finally got to see Solo. I really enjoyed it. Probably #4 behind ESB, ANH, and Rogue 1.

I do think they need to slow down though on the production of these movies. That was one thing that made Star Wars for me so exciting to see in the past, it was a long time between movies, so the excitement would build up.

Keri Russell cast in ep 9.
i don't care about the knights of ren literally at all but the idea of keri playing a jedi-gone-bad and wearing a lot of eyeliner about it might change my mind.now i'm picturing a keri russell/daisy ridley lightsaber battle and losing my ****, TGIF.
