They all look like line drives in the scorebook. Wow, what a disaster those last 35 minutes were. Give Michigan credit for making the adjustments that PSU refused to make. Fortunately, we caught them in a 1 v 1 with Hamler after that dopey defensive hold and that was the difference maker. Michigan's line neutralized PSU's pass rush and gave Patterson just enough time against our soft middle (again, where the F are the linebackers and safeties in the middle of the field?). Incredibly lucky to get that drop in the end zone. That gets caught, Michigan wins that game in OT. I'll take the 7-0 and I just booked a trip to Minnesota for that game on November 9 so hopefully we don't have a hiccup against Sparty next weekend.

As for the guys wearing windbreakers on the sideline, I really don't know about them. Why they continue to be stubborn about not giving Cain carries and why they completely abandon the running game is mystifying. Clifford is still going thru the learning curve with his reads, the same ones Trace struggled with his first year starting. As a result, Cliff keeps it more than he should and the way Michigan stacked the box, he wasn't escaping. The clock management was a giant f up as I mentioned earlier. Why coaches struggle with that, I have zero idea. Should be a ton easier in the college game since you get a quick clock stoppage on first downs, though it's real negligible now because they wind it as soon as they spot it rather than waiting for the chains to set. That sequence should have been Frieremuth catch, down at :45, timeout, 2nd and 3. Then they can gather and maybe work the middle, get the first down with about :38 left and depending how far they get, run up and clock it or just get a timeout and reset again. Instead, they choked all over themselves and got nothing and then the stupid special teams guys have to get all grabby. KJ doesn't need THAT much help, guys.

Whew...at least they won. That's all I care about at this point. The how they do it and the years they take off my life are just details.

Yeah, Cain is absolutely built to close out games, which made it really annoying to see Slade (whom I like but has a totally different skill set) in there.

“We feel really good; Ricky Slade had a good night. We have four guys that we have a lot of confidence in and are doing really good things. That team’s difficult to run the ball against."

That’s especially true when perhaps the most dynamic player at his position is hardly on the field. Franklin and offensive coordinator Ricky Rahne are hell-bent on playing four backs, even to the detriment of game flow and offensive production.

In the end, Ricky Slade led all rushers with 48 yards on three carries, an effort headlined by 44 on one burst. Brown had 19 yards on four carries, and Devyn Ford two on one.

They say when you have 2 QB’s, you have none. Same might be able to be said about 4 RBs. A lot of this smacks of prevent defense against the transfer portal instead of trying to win games.

Cain is clearly the best of the four. I'm guessing they use the "freshman" inexperience as an excuse. They need to play the best one. Cain, Brown, Slade, Ford imo

Solid second half... Terrible conditions in East Lansing so not gonna knock the offense too much. Pretty solid road win.

Take the win and move on. Sparty sucks on offense and they suck even more when it's bad conditions. Defense did everything they were supposed to do except for the one TD drive. Well done, especially by Gillikin with the punting deep.

I'll be in attendance in Minnesota in 2 weeks.

Hope it was the conditions, but this offense needs to learn to sustain drives. I think Clifford needs to learn to not look to KJ first every play. He hasn't yet developed the ability to come off his primary and find the proper alternate throw. When his primary isn't there, he tends to get happy feet...but still look deep. That's not a great trait IMO.

It just feels like this offense has some serious weapons that aren't being realized yet. KJ and Freiermuth (beast!) seem to be the only ones thriving, with everyone else, including the RBs, just kinda there. It's, I don't know, weird to watch.

You’re right, it’s like this offense regresses as the game goes on...at least the last 3 weeks it has felt that way. Dead on about Clifford. In fact, I’ve heard announcers say that if his first look isn’t there, his eyes come down. Suckeyes will have a field day with that. But a lot of that is o-line not getting him more time than they should. That group was just put on an award’s watch list a couple weeks ago and I just don’t see it. It’s not like they’re churning out rushing yards like 80s Nebraska or keeping their QB clean in the pocket. This team’s best chance going down the line is that the defense keeps up its consistency. In the past 4 years, they have lost games because the offense stalled out and the defense caved in. They were a dropped pass in the end zone away from that same fate vs Michigan. Guarantee OSU won’t botch that.

If they can get to 10-0 going into the Ohio State game, I'll take the season as a net positive unless we would crap the bed following the Ohio State game.

Keep the game within 14 of Ohio State, win the Rose Bowl and go 11-1. Good season.
