Hello, Rutgers! Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany added Rutgers because of the New York TV market and… the New York TV market.

I'm not saying this is as sour grapes to defend my school...but, we all knew that right? Not in the smarmy, ex post facto duhhhhh way...but in the "this was said at the time by people who make decisions" way...yes?

I very much do recall the entire reason for adding rutgers was for the NY TV market. And I thought to myself "well that's dumb..." at the time. Still kinda do.

Depth Chart!

TE: Griffin-Stewart, Gragg, Carrigan
RB: Davis, Davis, Carter
Mike: Brightwell, Reynolds, Pine
FS: Hamlin, Hallett
CB: Jackson, Coleman OR Williams

What the hell prompts a midseason move to FS for Hallett and to CB for Coleman?

Whatever. Hope springs eternal. Let's get it done this week.
PL mentioned that Pitt will likely be rotating a lot of personnel on defense in general because of the pace UCF likes to use. I also think we’ll see a ton of five/six-DB sets and Bates has been lining some of the DBs up all over the field (mostly Pinnock, but also Mathis). Coleman’s size may help on some of those deeper sideline routes that UCF likes to run.

I’ll be really curious to see how Pitt tries to bring pressure this week. UCF’s o-line is supposedly one the better o-lines they’ve ever had, but I’m not sure what that means relative to other teams Pitt has seen. They’ve been good at negating blitzes so far but I’m also not sure this o-line & QB have seen a defense yet that will go at them the way Pitt can. If Pitt can get the same kind of pressure and keep hitting Gabriel like they did Clifford, there may be some chances to get turnovers there.

Super panthers enter this UCF game as 11 point underdogs at home. Things that will need to happen for pitt to win:

a. Convert productive drives and yards into points
b. Keep UCF off the field, thereby preventing UCF from scoring points. This would generally require a sustainable run game.
c. Force turnovers

The bad news is that pitt has done virtually none of these things in the first three games of the season, so I fully expect directional florida to cover the spread. I do expect to see positive results from the defensive line and the defense in general. The D has shown that it can keep this team in games.

In more positive news, the Pitt athletics' lone beacon of hope, the women's VB team, plays a home and home against UPS. Pitt is currently #6 in the country and UPS is #4. Tonight's game will be played Bryce Jordan and will be televised on ESPNU the big 10 network. Sundays game will be at the pete. It will be a rare opportunity to see a super panther team compete on a national stage.

Wife and I are staying downtown this weekend for our anniversary. Place is crawling with UCF fans. Would be nice to send these snowbirds home with a loss. Don’t see it happening though.

Why isn’t Pitt wrestling competitive nationally? Being in the middle of the best high school wrestling in the country, it should be a no-brainer.

They will soon. My cousin was a top 5 recruit in the country a few years ago and picked OSU over Pitt.. from the WPIAL. They didn't have the coach, facilities or support then. They have the coach and support now. Facilities still aren't great but they should be top ten annually soon. A different beast cracking the next tier of UPS, OSU, Iowa and OK St though

The fieldhouse is butt. I went to the UNI match last year and it was like a morgue. Is your cousin still at OSU? I think the answer is “yes” as I only know of two WPIAL kids from Ohio State in recent history and Campbell was a Pitt transfer, not a recruit.

Heading to the game today so I'm glad it's not raining but given the opposition, I wouldn't have minded it being one of those crappy days when it was about 60 degrees and there was a constant rain falling.

Pitt obviously has their work cut out for them but I'm at least comfortable with the fact that this defense may be geared to give them a better chance in this game. I'm hoping to see Bates get creative with disguised pressure and blitzes. Their QB is pretty good but he's still just a true freshman.

I agree with the Kangaroo...the real keys to Pitt just staying in this game - let alone winning - is that the offense is going to have to find ways to extend drives and score some touchdowns. Those are each equally important; they need to sustain drives to keep UCF's offense off the field and when you get inside the red zone, they can't trade TDs for FGs.

I also agree on the turnovers forced by the defense. They seem to be getting close. Ford's INT last week would have been brilliant had Hamlin not been called for interference, and the opportunities may be there to make those kind of plays again today.

I'm just glad they don't have anything else in terms of match-ups on the out-of-conference schedule like this game for a while.

Yeah he's a senior. There's another Latrobe kid on the roster too.. fieldhouse stinks, practice room isn't ideal. Look up the covelli center that OSU just built to see what they're competing with
