Yesterday I learned that one of my coworker's husband is on some Pitt Alumni board, or she thinks he's on some board. I can't tell, but she also explained that her season tickets aren't even club level. I can't figure out how someone is on the "board" of something at Pitt and not have good seats.
I guess that I just imagine that a willingness to spend any money to go to a Pitt game would get you club seats.

I'm at 2 road trips (duke and cuse right now) let the record show that round trip, nonstop flights to Raleigh are less than $200 from PIT.

- The first one has veteran odds maker written all over it. Once a game except for the National Championship where I would be crazy (would I?) to demand it. I'm genuinely optimistic about this season, but if **** goes off the rails early in the season we could be at double digits before halftime against Ohio. - OVER. KSP hits 20.
- OVER. UMass QBs consistently threw for over 3,000 yards under Whipple. Only way KSP doesn't hit 2,500 is if he is truly terrible or injured, and if either of those happens he ain't getting 20 TDs.

A bunch of the fellow Pitt fans on Twitter - mostly part of the Pitt Twitter Tailgate group - did a re-watch/re-tweet of the 2016 Pitt-Clemson game last night (and as lame as that sounds, I do say there's something quite nice about spending a nice Friday summer evening out on the back patio with some burgers, beers, and a football game on the iPad). There are a few things that re-watch made me realize:
1. I miss Matt Canada. By the time that game came along, the jet sweeps weren't surprising people as often, even moreso because Clemson (and Miami the week before them) had the speed and athleticism to shut down those outside edges. But the multiple motion schemes and the shovel passes in particular gave Clemson fits all night. Seeing how Canada schemed and creatively used certain players has me at least optimistic about this year because Whipple did much of the same with his players at UMass.
2. Last year, I read that the biggest problem Shawn Watson had wasn't as much with his scheme but rather that he wasn't a good game-planner or strategist, especially when compared to Canada. When you watch that 2016 team - particularly that Clemson game - you see it in spades. That first drive by Pitt was absolutely brilliant by design, as was the last drive for the field goal.
3. Nate Peterman was really f'ing good when it came to hiding the ball on those misdirection plays. Really good.
4. I still have no earthly idea how Pitt won that game, because I completely forgot:
a. Pitt started the game already down to it's second-string interior DL with Jeremiah Taleni and Amir Watts. Tyrique Jarrett and Shakir Soto were both hurt on the same play against Miami the week before. Jarrett wasn't cleared to play against Clemson. Soto dressed but didn't start and then saw limited time because...
b. Amir Watts got hurt early on and never returned. I also forgot that...
c. Jordan Whitehead got hurt in the second half (that gross wrist/hand injury) and couldn't come back.
d. Jester Weah and Dontez Ford were both somewhat limited because of injury. Pitt started the game with Quadree Henderson and Aaron Matthews at wideout.
e. The base defense for much of this game featured Allen Edwards at one DE, and Taleni and either an injured Soto or Shane Roy at the other tackle. The broadcast crew openly wondered in the second half why Ejuan Price was so quiet all game. That's why.
f. The linebackers were mostly Mike Caprara, Matt Galambos, and Seun Idowu. Ryan Lewis was at one corner. Free safety was mostly Terrish Webb.
To that end...
Taleni, Galambos, and Caprara played the games of their lives. Almost 75% of the defense that saw the field for Pitt that night was comprised of players that were probably much better suited for group-of-five level football, but they had guys that came up very big in very big moments. Lewis had a huge INT early on that he made a great play on. Reggie Mitchell had a gigantic pass breakup after Webb got beat. Brightwell took advantage of a huge misread late in the game by Watson. And then of course, Taleni, Edwards, Galambos and Caprara came up with the stops on 3rd and 1 and 4th and 2 that got Pitt the ball back for that last drive.
What a fun game to re-watch.

I’ll remember Taleni’s stuff on that 4th down attempt by Clemson for as long as my brain still works.

I was at that game. One of the best games I've ever been to. Just a ton of fun. And Clemson itself was an awesome place to be.
