This one just doesn't look good. And all of the animals looks far too much like humans.
all of the animals Mowgli encounters throughout the trailer look downright terrifying. But not physically threatening, not terrifying in the dark, gritty reboot way that they’re supposed to. No. They’re creepy. They look like the result of a terrible genetic experiment, an ungodly attempt to breed dogs with human eyes. These creatures have all plunged off the uncanny valley at full speed, and landed straight on their faces.

They’re undoubtedly supposed to resemble the actors who voice them, but they all look more like Mike Myers in that atrocious movie adaptation of The Cat in the Hat, like they were designed by someone who wasn’t entirely sure what animals actually look like.

Pretty much. I can only assume that they took their inspiration from The Island of Dr. Moreau.

Mowgli is interesting if only because Andy Serkis is directing.
I agree. Good cast too

LOL I started laughing as soon as I saw the first animal taking to Mowgli. That's cringeworthy.

I'm not sure if it was this Mowgli movie or the Jungle Book movie, but wasn't there an issue with how they made the animals talk and they had to go back in to change things?

All you need to know is that it's the DARKEST version. Mowgli rescued from a John McCage by animals to rally the jungle against the umbrella corporation that created them? Sign me the f*** up.
I watched it without sound

Also, "A Quiet Place" was solid, if unspectacular. Taut, efficient little film that ends precisely at the right time.
I thought it was nearly perfect in that there was very little that could have been cut. There were a few things that I thought were glossed over if anything. Best horror film I have seen in years.

It's basically Bird Box meets Signs.

Anyone see annihilation? I think it comes to Netflix next week. I see Alex Garland saying Alan Moore's swamp thing was a main influence. I liked the book a lot, but this looks like a different take and the swamp thing definitely works for me

I watched Annihilation over the weekend, and while most of it was enjoyable, I still don't know what to make of the ending.
Worth a watch if you've got time to kill, but I wouldn't go out of my way to watch it.

I'm really happy for A Quiet Place as it satisfied the Bird Box itch very very well. Bird Box is being headlined by Sandra Bullock who, if she's playing Malorie who is a knocked up college kid, is entirely wrong for the project. I really can't think of anywhere that Bullock fits in the story but if she's the lead then it completely changes the tone for the worst.

Dear God why? That role would be much better served by a relatively young, not well known actress.

Yeah, I don't get it. She's good at the glurge that she makes, but this isn't it. If she's playing the lead the story literally cannot be made as it was in the book; she's 53 years old. So they either changed the lead or completely rewrote the character.

Malkovich is the other main actor on the project so that has promise.

I don't know anything about Bird Box, but I can't think of a single Sandra Bullock movie I've seen that hasn't been at the very least enjoyable. She gets a lot of hate, but she's so damn likable on screen.

Now I'll sit back and wait for all the examples of terrible Bullock movies...

This is pretty easy

Premonition
Practical Magic
Miss Congeniality (2 worse than 1)
Hope Floats

And so on and so on. She has been in a TON of flops/stinkers. That said, I admittedly liked The Net, Demolition Man, and even Speed 2 was a guilty pleasure. But she was not the reason I found enjoyment in any of those movies. As a matter of fact, I derive very little enjoyment from her being on screen. I thought she was annoying and distracting in Gravity.

For some reason her style has always kind of grated on me. I know she turned in objectively good performances in movies like The Blind Side, but something about her has always bothered me a bit. Even in Speed I found her character annoying.

For once, Hollywood tinkers with a story to make it work for a 50+ year old female lead.
