Watered down 4k is still superior to 1080i, at the end of the day.

I know this isn't the music thread, but I thought it was interesting that the Avett Brothers are livestreaming their concert at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in late August with a 4K option - $35, and you can watch it as many times in 48 hours after the show. Regular HD is $25.

People probably just expect 4K to go the same way as 3D, and curved screens, and other such "oh look shiny" tech that is always supposedly the next big thing.

I’d like to think not, because it’s the only one in your list that’s a bonafide game changer.People probably just expect 4K to go the same way as 3D, and curved screens, and other such "oh look shiny" tech that is always supposedly the next big thing.

I think a hurdle to widespread adoption of 4k is that it came out relatively soon after the jump from NTSC and PAL to 1080HD. We had one broadcast standard basically since the 1950s, and then just since the late 00s we've gone from NTSC to 720 to 1080 to 4k.

Technology moves fast, and there’s no excuse these days for providers and studios. They’re all agile and agile to shift quickly.

I don't really see enough of a difference between 1080 and 4K to justify shelling out money on a new TV when the one I currently have works fine.

HDR/Dolby vision is that difference maker. There are certainly some 4k media that don't shine, but the ones that do are night and day difference between 1080 imo.I don't really see enough of a difference between 1080 and 4K to justify shelling out money on a new TV when the one I currently have works fine.

It's a bigger jump in resolution from 1080 to 4k than it was from 480/DVD to 1080.

Me and my kids watched Midway. It was OK, I guess. The history was reasonably accurate, but the CGI was not great.

Curse of the Black Pearl is a great movie.

Jack Sparrow's character reveal in The Curse Of The Black Pearl is a top 5 such scene in cinema history.
Discuss.
That first POTC movie punches well above its weight. Expectations were pretty low (I guess just speaking for myself), but it ended up being immensely good times. All the performances are great, all the action is great, the sword play is outstanding (I think it was one of the last shows Bob Anderson worked on), there are rum jokes, and you get to look at Keira Knightley for 2 hours.

And that damn catchy He's a Pirate tune.

Expectations were low for me as well. I mean, movies based on Disney rides didn't exactly impress. Tower of Terror with Guttenberg in 97 and The Country Bears the previous summer. I think Haunted Mansion was released the same year but in theaters after PotC. Should be interesting to see how Jungle Cruise pans out.
It's a near perfect action/adventure movie. I miss the classic adventure movies.

The only thing I don't like about POTC is the supernatural stuff. (Which recurs throughout the series) It's such a throwaway part of the ride, and they lean on it way too much in the movies imo.

Man the supernatural stuff is great in Black Pearl. I wasn't too big on the Davey Jones stuff and the Kraken from the rest of the series, but the Black Pearl's curse hit a sweet spot for me.
I'm trying to remember all the skeletons in the ride. Are they just in the cove scene? So you have the one behind the wheel, the one drinking wine, the one on the treasure. Are there any more throughout the ride?
