Has anyone seen this? Saw it on Reddit and hadn't even heard of it. 95% on RT and looks fun.

The only thing that could have made F9 a good movie would have been 45 minutes less run time. The back story flashbacks (necessary for the absurd retcons) were good, but man is there a lot of unnecessary garbage bloating up the middle of it.

I'm digging the dune success carryover. Hyperion could be really gnarly

Ha, a friend of mine is on Facebook telling stories about working as a VFX producer on Blade and what a bag of dicks Stephen Norrington was. Guy was late for meeting that was scheduled for lunchtime. So one of the other producers went and got some fast food. While eating, the director showed up - 90 minutes late - and when he began speaking he went up to the fast food guy and literally took fries out of his hand just as he was about to bite and threw them at the guy's face. "No one eats fries when I'm talking!"

I mean, who says that in real life.

I’m still in Halloween mode so I watched Blair Witch (2016). I’m a big fan of the original but I ignored this when it was released because I thought it was a remake. Nope, it’s a direct sequel with a terrible title. It’s much better than Book of Shadows but that doesn’t mean much. It had a few good moments but it’s mostly forgettable and overlooks what made the original so memorable.

We watched spiderman 3. That feels like two or three movies crammed into one with bully Spidey easily being the best part. You could probably just start the movie from that part. I'm now finding out about these bully videos or memes or whatever they are called and they are quite funny. My youngest won't stop saying I'm going to put some dirt in your eye.

Did you know @PFIDC is friends with people that made the first one?

The original Blair Witch Project scared the everloving piss outta me. Co-worker saw it at Sundance, and the screening room was like 15 people (standing) and you were given a piece of paper with the 5 or 6 'witch incidents' bullet pointed. That was it. Then the title card about found footage, and away you went.

After I saw it, I made one of those little stick scarecrow figures and hung it in his office.

It's got some laughs. I think overall it kind of drags a bit, but the funny parts are very funny. Everything with Stalin's son is hilarious.

Sanchez and Myrick? I did not know that.

I saw the original at the old Robinson theater and was still unsure if it was real or not. Freaked me the **** out. Then of course I went home and studied the web site (which was incredible). I forget when I eventually learned it was completely untrue but I still appreciated the myth building around the movie. I mean, IMDB listed the actors as "missing" for crying out loud. It was a situation that will never be repeated.

Blair Witch Project was also the first DVD I ever owned and the Sanchez/Myrick commentary track was fascinating.

Hah, nice.

I don't know who he knew. He just name-dropped it so many times I'm now conditioned to do it on his behalf for him since he's not around at the moment. ;)

Dang it looks like the original website was taken offline a few years ago. It still sort of exists on the internet archive but some of the links/videos are broken.

Blair Witch was the first movie I recall being marketed so immersively. They built the lore virally, and it was a true lightning in a jar moment in film history.

Can you imagine any actor agreeing to 8 days on “set” camping in the woods with a 24/7 shoot? Oh and not getting a true acting credit until later in its release life? And your IMDb page listing you as “missing?” It was an 8 day 24/7 improv shoot and the actors not only had to legitimately camp for over a week (without breaks or showers) but they were also responsible for shooting and recording the sound. That’s insane.

I have a confession: I just watched Dune and I found it incredibly boring. It's a jumbled mess of exposition mixed with beauty shots of planets or people I was given little reason to care about. It's as "Part 1" as you can get which wouldn't be so bad if we didn't have to wait until October 2023 for the conclusion. It would work better as a pilot to a ridiculously expensive mini-series with the second episode just a week away.

There wasn't really a script, either, in terms of plot. When the one character is abducted and disappears, he was the only one that knew that was going to happen. Filmmakers would rustle the tent at night to f**k with the actors. There'd be like a milk crate with a bike flag and each actor would get a box or envelope with their unique direction and GPS coordinates to the next milk crate and direction like "talk about meters vs feet on the way; oh btw Mike, Elly's gonna get you tonight, so here's a bag of human teeth for you to leave behind."

The audition was nuts, too. Once the actors arrived they were told "You were convicted of murder 10 years ago and are up for parole. We (directors) are the parole board. Make your case." to test their improv skills. Heather was cast because she was like "I shouldn't be released, I'm a monster", which is badass.

And re IMDB, all the actors played characters with the same names as their own which heightened the gag.
