Watched Beauty and the Beast (1991) last night. That movie is absolutely tremendous. At one point my youngest looks over and says, why does the beast want to change, he's got all these cool things doing stuff for him in this sweet castle and he can fight wolves. He's selfishly kinda right, haha

One of their best.
Fun fact: The dance scene between Beast and Belle was literally copied frame for frame from Sleeping Beauty

I'll take a stab since I likely killed tif in the job thread. I listen to The Darkest Timeline podcast, and Ken Jeong was talking about being nominated for a razzie. Joel McHale said it's not so much that you are the worst actor, but that you are famous enough that they would even bother nominating you in the first place. Besides, what's the point of nominating the truly "worst actor"? Nobody knows who they are, and like 10 people may have seen the movie in the first place.***likely tif question alert***
Open to anyone with knowledge, but I get the sense that tif already has bead on this...what's the deal with the Razzies/Golden Raspberry Awards...? Does it actually represent the worst of the year? Do you find a legit correlation between these awards and your (royal your) perception of reality? Is there any "respect" (I guess) for what it is they put together or is it just a quick gag through and through...?

So yeah, it's a gag in a sense, but it's more of a roast in that you may have been in a bad movie, but you've nailed 20 other movies so this one stands out.

"Worst of the best" or "best of the worst" comes to mind... likely more the former.

I bet if you looked at the list of all time nominees, you'll recognize most if not all. It's not like they are going to nominate the storm trooper that hit his head on the bulkhead.

That's the AVN Awards, and I know people that have actually attended them.Is that the pron awards?
The categories list...... whoo..........

Haha, the Razzies are actually pretty great. I haven't looked at the Wiki page, but I know they have a pretty solid history of actually getting celebrities to show up in person to accept their award. I think it was Halley Berry who showed up to collect her Razzie for Catwoman and she brought her Oscar for Monster's Ball with her, which is one helluva flex. I think Sandra Bullock showed up once. I think some studios have used Razzies in marketing for home video, like they nod-wink at the joke and accept that they turned out a real stinker and that maybe that has its own intrinsic entertainment value.***likely tif question alert***

And yes, they generally do line up with reality. Razzie winners really went the extra mile to achieve maximum suck.

It's funny you mention the home video angle, as I was scrolling through the winners and I was like, "hmm, I have seen some of these...that would be a pretty easy goal to hit to see these..."
That said, I'm surprised to not see Magic Mike listed, particularly the acting* of Cody Horn (?) the actress* who plays Tatum's love interest...she's really, really bad at it.

That's reflective of what that a-hole robbie was talking about. They aren't going to dunk on some hapless DTV monstrosity, they're going to let Kirk Cameron's Christmas movie take all the awards. Cats swept this year, I think, because obviously.
Top Gear did a special a few years ago where they selected the worst car ever. But they added a qualifier, because it's easy to pick a terribad car from some dopey Eastern European communist-era company. So it was the 'worst car.... from a manufacturer that should know better'. As I recall, they picked that awful Lexus SC430. That's sort of the Razzies.

Got it. Ok, that's relatable...like how I say Stamkos is the worst playoff player of this generation...it might be Korbinian Holzer, but I mean, who the hell knows who that is or cares...
Good deal, thanks

The ballroom/chandelier scene was the first time Disney used CG in an animated feature, and it's still a breathtaking piece of visual storytelling to me. Belle is the most goodest of eggs among the princesses, and when Hermoine Granger was cast to play her in live-action form it broke Rule 34 into a thousand glorious points of light. Also, the animation in that movie is incredible

The contemporary live action Disney movies are slightly below Wounded Knee on the crimes against humanity scale.
