My daughter loved it. The initial Dip scene wasn’t bad at all.Your daughter is close in age to mine, right? (6.5). Lol I'm hesitant to let her watch that. It's a pretty damn dark movie. The Judge Doom scene in particular...I'm torn.Tonight’s family movie night is featuring Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Not sure what changed my daughter’s mind on this, but okay.

Which cut did you watch? LOTM is one of the few films I appreciate more in its theatrical version, but it's almost impossible to find in HD. The longer cuts lose some of the emotional impact, especially around the finale.Daughter and I bonded over Last of the Mohicans yesterday. Dang do I love that movie.

I didn't know there were alternate cuts of LOTM. What is different between the two?
Chingachgook casing down Magua is just *chef kiss* brilliant. It's one of those rare movies (like Alien) that manages to have an exhilarating and thoroughly exciting climax despite there not being any dialog for the final several minutes of action.

This site goes into more detail. I think the theatrical cut is brilliant but Mann's tinkering with longer cuts hurt the film, imo. The subsequent cuts definitely lose some of the emotional impact.I didn't know there were alternate cuts of LOTM. What is different between the two?

I didn't even realize, but apparently it was the director cut I watched. I honestly don't know the difference, but it was great. I got a little to pumped up for Chingachgook and his sword and told my daughter, coming up is awesome and then she looked at me in tears right after Uncas and Alice died and was like really. And I sobbed back to her, well not that part, but keep watching.

Also drank margaritas later and announced the beginning of drinking by reciting to the family:
Great Spirit, Maker of All Life. A warrior goes to you swift and straight as an arrow shot into the sun. Welcome him and let him take his place at the council fire of my people. He is Uncas, my son. Tell them to be patient and ask death for speed, for they are all there but one, I, Chingachgook, last of the Margaritas.

Did you lean into the pronunciation like Chingachgook? ("He is UNcas, my son")

Because theaters of both kinds aren’t a thing anymore...and what's weird about that is it's a taping from 2016...Awesome!
Oh wait... 2021. Okay then.
Edit: Woof.
It has been reported that Disney paid $75 million for the worldwide rights to the two hour and 40 minute movie, which features the original cast. With the film going straight to streaming, it is unclear how this will impact Disney’s ability to monetize its investment.

**** yes. That's awesome
Disney better not censor this at all.

Well, it is Disney... so the lead character is now a woman.

He's already an orphan so that works out.

Watched 'Never Surrender', the documentary about the making of Galaxy Quest, on Amazon last night.
Perfection.
Highlights:
- Did not know Tim Allen was a sci-fi nerd going in.
- The movie would not have been nearly as good if Harold Ramis had directed it with Steve Martin in the role of Jason/Commander Taggart
- Sigourney Weaver lobbied hard for the role of Gwen/Lt Madison, against the producers' wishes to avoid casting people with sci-fi credits
- Will Wheaton considers GQ the best Start Trek movie (and in retrospect, he's not wrong)
- "I think he just experienced 'acting' for the first time." -- wooof lol
- The entirety of the 5 minutes they dedicated to Alan Rickman
- Allen, Rickman, and Weaver came to their roles with similar life experiences to their characters, which I had never really noted prior
- Enrico Colatoni (Mathesar) created the entire Thurmian vocal affect sort of on accident while leaving his audition

Is it weird that my favorite part of Galaxy Quest is when Weaver and Allen turn the corner in the tubes and there is the big obstacle course type thing and Weaver's character says "screw this" but the video CLEARLY shows her saying "***k this"?

They give a couple minutes over to that in the documentary. There's actually a backstory. lol

I don't think I've seen that movie, sounds like maybe I should

The documentary starts with a quote. David Mamet has a list of “perfect” films: The Godfather, Dodsworth, A Place in the Sun, Galaxy Quest.
See it, Edward.

**** Mamet and his “Mamet speak.” It’s just how people talk. This is one of those strange things that has annoyed me since I learned about Mamet and shouldn’t really bother me but does. The documentary starts with a quote.
