Thundercats was one of my favorite shows as a kid, and even my daughter loves it. Hope they don't screw it up.As his new film Godzilla vs. Kong opens Wednesday in U.S. theaters and on HBO Max after turning up a Hollywood film pandemic record $123 million gross in 38 overseas markets over the weekend, director Adam Wingard is set to direct ThunderCats. That is a big-scale feature based on an animated TV series that ran from 1985-89 by Rankin Bass, and several other iterations, comic books and merchandise.
The project had been developed by Rideback’s Dan Lin and Vertigo’s Roy Lee (they were producers on the Wingard-directed Death Note), with an early script by David Coggeshall. Wingard will rewrite a script with Simon Barrett, and will turn all this into a hybrid of CGI and animation. The series focuses on a group of cat-like humanoid aliens who live on the dying planet Thundera. The ThunderCats are force to flee their homeland.
The film will use the animated series as a jumping-off point, but then Wingard will take it in a direction he has been thinking about for many years. Check out the director interview that follows right below this to fully understand just how deep that passion is. It is noteworthy that this makes Wingard the first filmmaker to sign a deal with Warner Bros since its parent WarnerMedia surprised every director of a WB film by putting the 2021 slate on HBO Max along with its U.S. theatrical debut.

No joke, I am honestly left with the only option of believing shmengy is mixing up in his mind an episode of The Facts Of Life or maybe Remington Steele and thinking that's the movie Up. Every post makes it increasingly more likely that he did not, in fact, actually see the Pixar movie.

These auto replies aren’t useful at all. Also...I find it completely baffling that someone without kids carries water for Up.

Good one.
The crux of this is that Up isn’t a good movie and I don’t understand the tragedy of an old man’s wife dying. The mileage you guys are extracting out of a completely banal thing...woof.

It’s hard to contend with your intellectual and moral superiority compared to the rest of us plebeians.

I remember seeing UP in the theater with my wife and no kids. It was a terrific date. I quite enjoy the weirdness of it and think it is a beautiful thing.

Because an old man's wife dying isn't the story of Up. The story is relationships, mourning the past, fearing the future, having to live your life after losing what you lived your life for, and ultimately being at peace with this new life. It's also incredibly well told, especially for a "kids movie." There's a large section fo the movie, like Wall-E before it, that's completely free of dialogue and jokes. Doing that in a kids movie is insane (and may explain why your kids don't particularly like it). It's not a typical children's movie, if it is a children's movie at all. There are many moments in Up that a child just wouldn't understand because they've yet to experience that part of life. Moreover, there are plenty of examples the "Up is good" crowd can point to as evidence (awards, critic/audience scores) where the "Up is bad" crowd (aka you) can only point to "my kids don't want to watch it."Source of the post The crux of this is that Up isn’t a good movie and I don’t understand the tragedy of an old man’s wife dying.

Nocera. You haven’t read the majority of my posts on this, apparently. They’re stratified across a few threads now. Maybe that’s it. That’s the same theme summary I posted last night. Slow down and breath.

I tried to explain why everybody thinks Up is good. You keep pushing it that's why I even bothered with a longer reply. You're the one getting awfully defensive about having the minority opinion here.Nocera. You haven’t read the majority of my posts on this, apparently. They’re stratified across a few threads now. Pixar doesn't make children's movies. They make grown up movies with enough kid content to keep the littles engaged.
My childless wife and I went to see Up in the theater opening weekend, and we ugly cried.

This might be the "best made" horror film ever. The cinematography, lighting, colors, and sound are amazing. The plot and acting? Not so much. I love the movie though. I hadn't actually seen it until last year. Not sure why that is. I just never got around to it. Been trying to find the second one to stream for free but that's the only one not available. Some rights thing or something.BOY!Phantasm remastered bluray in sale for $5

My favorite part is where the boy tells his brother the crazy things happening, then shows his brother the finger that has turned into a fly/monster/thing. In any other movie the older character would come up with some "reasonable" explanation. Instead, he deadpans, "I believe you." Cracks me up every time.

I noticed that too. When I saw that I was like "here we go with the 'Come on bro be serious stop joking' trope" Nope. Dude just "OK lets do it" and ran with it like Jack Burton in Big Trouble in Little China, who also didn't question anything. He just went forward. My favorite part is where the boy tells his brother the crazy things happening, then shows his brother the finger that has turned into a fly/monster/thing. Martyrs is probably my favorite horror movie.
The Descent is next. Then It Follows.
Never seen Phantasm, somehow.

I watched Martyrs once. That was enough. I appreciated what it was but I don't care to watch it again.
The Descent is amazing. My favorite horror movie of the last 20 or so years.

I had the pleasure of seeing The Descent at Row House in Lawrenceville. If you ever have a chance to see it in a small theater like that, do it. The claustrophobia the movie causes was intensified. Such a fantastic movie. The sequal wasn't bad either

Descent and Martyrs are both sort of 2 horror movies in one. Pretty neat.
