Yeah, I was like fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck at first, too.

I believe it was delayed because of how busy McFarland has been, and how much processing must be done because of the visual effects. We're getting more episodes than season 1, so it's an acceptable trade-off, IMO.

In thread-related news, I watched Rampage this weekend. Definitely enjoyable for what it was.

What once was rumored is now actually happening. Joaquin Phoenix has closed a deal to play the Joker in a spinoff origin film that’s separate from the other DC Universe films.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, and independently confirmed by io9, the film will start shooting in New York in September. Todd Phillips (The Hangover) is directing and co-wrote the script with Scott Silver. It’s described as “exploration of a man disregarded by society [that] is not only a gritty character study but also a broader cautionary tale.”

No release date has been set and it’s expected to have a budget in the $55 million range. That’s relatively cheap when it comes to superhero movies but this is being approached as more of a gritty crime drama than a big superhero movie. And yes, the Jared Leto Joker movie is still in development. It’s unrelated to this. Leto’s Joker is expected to take place in the world of Justice League and Suicide Squad.
The idea of having two different Jokers, let alone two different DC movie lines, is complete batshit crazy to me. I read a rumor a couple weeks ago that the Matt Reeves Batman movies are likely to take place in the same "universe" as Joaquin Phoenix's Joker, which to me is the perfect opportunity to pack up shop with the rest of the DC Universe, move Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn and Gal Gadot's fine everything into this new, un-ruined DC Universe, and just start the hell over.

At this point, DC should stop worrying about how to make all of their movies connect. Just make one offs and if there is a crossover, fine, but stop forcing this nonsense.

Deadline reports that MGM has hired District 9 director Neill Blomkamp to make a film called RoboCop Returns, a sort of sequel/reboot to the original 1987 Paul Verhoeven film, and unrelated to the 2014 remake. The hope is for this to reinvigorate the franchise.

Justin Rhodes (Terminator 6) is rewriting a script by Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner, who also wrote the original film. The pair wrote a sequel script after they wrote the original movie, but it never got made due to a writers strike and Verhoeven’s lack of interest in doing it. Two unrelated sequels followed, and a long time after came the 2014 reboot, but none of those told the story of the original follow-up idea. That script, and its ideas, lingered.

“Right when Trump was about to be elected president [MGM President Jon Glickman] called me and said, ‘Did you actually predict in your sequel script that a reality star would run for president and win?’ Neumeier told Deadline. “We had. So Mike and I wrote a draft and gave one interview in Barbados and I think the only person who read it was Neill Blomkamp, and that set this in motion.”
I look forward to Detroit looking like South Africa, RoboCop actually being Chappie, and finding out what Sharlto Copley's role is.

If you recall, one of the in-movie news telecasts references the threat of nuclear war in Pretoria after the military government of the 'besieged city-state' revealed they had a French neutron bomb.

Sounds like the sequel is based off a script that Verhoeven wrote after the first one.

There was a great episode of Retro Replay where Troy Baker and Nolan North got into an argument over whether or not Die Hard was a Christmas movie. (There is, of course, no debate; not only is it a Christmas movie, it is perhaps the greatest Christmas movie) Baker did the whole "tell Holly I'm sorry" thing in character, and it was a hoot.

Kinda of movie related. Also kinda @tifosi77 related.
Dark Horse Comics today announced an upcoming comic book series based on legendary sci-fi author William Gibson’s original, unproduced script for Alien 3. The series will be adapted for the page by writer and artist Johnnie Christmas.
“Following the deadly events of Aliens, the Union of Progressive Peoples intercepts the spaceship carrying the hibernating bodies of Ripley, Hicks, Newt, and Bishop. But unbeknownst to them, they have also picked up another deadly passenger whose discovery will unleash a race between two governments to weaponize the xenomorph in this horrifying and poignant Cold War-themed thriller.”

Yeah, I'm not so sure that's actually any better. Two words: wooden planet.

Watch the BTS stuff on the Blu-ray. I'm kinda happy with this being a 'what if'.
