Pls srsly reserve discussion of Marvel movies to the dedicated Marvel movie thread so as not to annoy the actual movie thread with discussion of Marvel stuff. kthx

It's ridiculous that anyone's complaining about a non disabled actor playing a quadriplegic, a straight actor playing a gay character, etc. People don't have any common sense these days.

Nobody flinched when he played a meth-cooking, mass murdering drug lord.

Watch the original french movie (the intouchables), it's one of the funniest and most heartwarming movie ever made.

Baby Driver has slowly become my favorite movie that's been released in maybe the last five years

not the best movie, but to me the most entertaining. It seems to be on all the time on the "movie channels" (I'm watching it on Showtime now). I know this is poorly timed but Spacey is incredible in it and everyone else in the cast is great including Hamm. Also the music is 10/10 and the general aesthetic is very fun

“Star Trek 4” Shelved by Paramount
Director S.J. Clarkson's "Star Trek 4" has been shelved, at least that's what Deadline is reporting in their annual assessment of upcoming Paramount projects for 2019:

"Clarkson was the first female director to be tapped to direct a Star Trek movie when she was hired to helm the fourth feature in the current series. That project has since been shelved."

Casting reportedly "got bad," according to numerous sources, with some specifically pointing the finger to the "abnormally high" salaries demanded by stars Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth. “Jessica Jones” director Clarkson had signed on to helm the the film, based on a script by uncredited “Star Trek: Beyond” writers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay. The film was rumored to see Hemsworth’s George Kirk (Capt. Kirk’s dad, who famously died in the opening minutes of Abram’s 2009 reboot) returning to the franchise alongside the NuTrek cast of Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, and John Cho.

By the way, the stars were not "demanding abnormally high" salaries. They all signed a contract prior to Beyond which included raises with each subsequent film. Beyond underperformed and now the studio doesn't want to honor the contract.

Shame. Beyond was good, and the most Trek-like of the three.

So Paramount signed all of these actors who were, at the time, complete unknowns to reboot a storied franchise, struck gold, and now are getting cheap?

I wonder what their profit margin needs to be in order to bother making a film. There's no doubt that they'd make a ton of money on another movie.

For years it was presumed that there would never be a third Men In Black movie because Spielberg's backend participation (woo) was gargantuan. It was one of those deals that an agent negotiates almost as a goof just to see what the other side will agree to more than any effort to secure a client's interests. And it worked, and then.........

Basically. And they're spinning it to paint the actors as greedy. **** Paramount.

To save budget they could do the entire Star Trek 4 on Risa. Lots of money shots and rent it out of the back room.

I enjoyed Roma. The first half was a bit of a slog to get through, but as I settled into the movie I began to enjoy it more. I thought the film was beautifully shot and Cleo's story parallels close enough to the life story of my wife's grandmother's housekeeper that it's easy for me to empathize with.

With that being said, as much as I love Mexico, Mexico City, and enjoyed eating wild boar tacos in Colonia Roma a week and a half ago, I don't think I would put it that high on my best films list.
