It’s a superhero version of Rocky. Champ gets KOd and has to come back to get his belt. It was watchable, but I wasn’t a huge fan. Lots of cast members that I like though.
That’s how I felt about it, as well.
The cgi end battle didn't look good
While I appreciate the cultural value it had in giving Black kids a representation in the superhero world, I thought it was just ok too. Wh Ed n it came out and everyone was raving, I was wondering if I was missing something.

First superhero movie nominated for Best Picture, and the first film in the MCU to actually won an Oscar. 5AF 2020 verdict: "watchable".

I really miss things.

The Dark Knight should have been the first movie nominated for best picture, but nevertheless Black Panther is a pretty great movie let down by the wonky CGI final battle.

Tif thinks Oscar shenanigans are based on artistic merit. Cool.

Is this the part of the day were everyone in Pennsylvania explains how Hollywood works to me?

As I recall, it was the primary reason for the Academy expanding the Best Picture category to 10 films. You look at the five films that made the cut for nominations, and you could argue that none of them are even as good as TDK, never mind better.

I do not watch superhero movies. Calling it watchable is a compliment.

8-)

There are a couple MCU films prior to Black Panther that were objectively better. Yes, *that* was a major reason for the nomination. And I liked Black Panther (more than everyone in here it seems).

Ditto.

My wife watches them on a rotation and they bore the snot out of me.

Anybody headed to a theater soon? Or have you since they reopened? (Still not open in Jersey.)

Not planning on going, but I am tempted by the $150 rent out theater for Tenet if I get together some family or friends.

We've had a few open up locally, but we're not in any rush to go sit in a theater. One of our theaters was projecting older films on the side of their building as an ad hoc drive in theater, which was cool. They had Jurassic Park and Back to the Future one weekend.

I've considered this as well. 10 people.at $15 a piece ain't bad. But I'd need 10 friends and I'm a terrible person so that's tough.

 Poor PFiDC.

I’m in no hurry to get to a theater but AMC keeps sending emails to remind me that even though our favorite theaters are closed, I have a theater about 17 miles away in PA that is open.

We went to the theater once like a month or so ago when the one theater was selling 5$ tickets. We saw Ghostbusters (the original), it was just us and two other people in the theater. It was nice to eat some popcorn and watch a movie on the big screen.

Gov just announced NJ theaters can open this Friday at 25% capacity, socially distanced, along with indoor dining and entertainment venues.

I was actually going to the movies more the year prior to this. I was taking off random Fridays to see a newer release by myself mid-morning, and loved it. That said, gonna be a long while before I return.

Come to think of it, we weren't going to many movies either. Once the kids got older, we stopped going to the animated films (except for Pixar, naturally) so that cut about 6 movies out a year. No new Marvel or Star Wars in 2020 either, so those were out...

Knives Out was a great "last" movie to see in a theater.
