Puss In Boots: The Last Wish was very enjoyable, excellent art design and animation on top of a fun story.

Yeah this was really good. One of my favorite animated features of the last decade or so.

Not really a fan of the animation style, but I'll still check it out.

The art style is the best part about that trailer. It reminds me of into the Spider-verse a bit, which is a good thing. They do seem much younger than I remember. More like Pre-teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

The Fabelmans was very good. Some strange scenes in it, but probably directly from Spielberg's life, so whatevs. Michelle Williams fully earned that Oscar nom fwiw.

The Cocaine Bear backstory, saw it in Variety:
While the murderous rampage was not part of the true story that “Cocaine Bear” is based on, the actual chain of events took place in September 1985 when a convicted drug smuggler named Andrew Thornton offloaded a duffel bag of cocaine over northern Georgia. A 175-pound black bear then ingested the cocaine and subsequently overdosed, and was discovered three months later next to about 40 plastic containers of cocaine. Thornton also died during an attempt to abandon the overloaded plane when his parachute was rendered faulty. Today, the bear is on display at the Kentucky for Kentucky Fun Mall in Lexington, Ky.

Same people that make the Sharknado...films.

David Lynch as John Ford was unexpected, delightful, and fantastic.

And from what I gather, that scene is pretty much beat-for-beat exactly as it happened irl (as far as Spielberg remembers it), down to the silent entry, the lipstick kisses on his face, and the bit about where to place the horizon line in your frame. Apparently Laura Dern is Lynch's bestie, and Spielberg roped her into wrangling him into the cameo. Lynch stipulated that he'd only do it if they sent him his wardrobe a few weeks ahead of time, and he basically lived every waking moment in those clothes for days prior to shooting.

Yeah, that was a nice touch - I read a version (IMdB?) where Lynch said he would do it if they had Cheetos at the craft table.

The weird scene that went on too long was the weird praying scene with the girlfriend. It sounds like a wacky 60s thing though that Spielberg wrote into the script.

Got tickets for a matinee showing of Scream 6 (or just Scream I guess) on Saturday in an XD Theater. Under $20 for two tickets so nothing much lost. I don't remember hating the last one nearly as much as anyone else, so hoping for a good, bloody, violent time.

YMMV, but as someone who can't help but have an interest in awards when the season comes along, I absolutely subscribe to this line of thinking: https://www.theringer.com/oscars/2023/3 ... rformances

I don’t care about the Oscar’s because they’re much, much more about politics and pop culture than the art of film

That movie would’ve been huge in 2001.

A Knock at the Cabin. Like most M Night movies, the tension and the build is great. Unfortunately, like most M Night movies, he stumbles in the climax and resolution. Dave Baustista is fantastic even if the writing is weak at times. I think acts 1 and 2 are good enough that the poor climax and third act can be forgiven. It’s worth a watch if you have liked M Night’s recent films as it’s one of the better ones.

The framed magazine covers are a nice touch. I might steal that and add the People cover to my movie room.

Scream 6 was a fun and very very violent time. Definitely upped the violence/kills by like 100%. Better than 5 for sure.

I just watched Ghostbusters on VHS on a CRT tv tonight. It just feels right. Like it's meant to be watched that way.
