Island of Dr. Moreau is such a beautifully weird hot mess of a thing.Wow, is Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley's Island of Dr. Moreau an incredible documentary on Amazon. I love hardware and dust devil and figured Richard Stanley was out there, but hearing him talk about this disaster of a movie is so interesting (witchcraft?!?). Go watch this movie if you enjoy seeing behind the scenes how something can go so wrong. This guy is a nut and we were so worse off in the movie world without him all this time.
I am so excited Stanley is back with a new Lovecraft movie with nic cage.

Watched Yesterday last night. Not sure what I was expecting but it was basically an 90s rom com with Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts but Hugh Grant was ethnic and could sing well.
Was ok, but very little substance to it. Good for a date night movie.

We finally got around to watching Deadpool 2 on Friday. I thought it was great, and would love to see a third. And Deadpool needs to be included in a movie with other mutants.

The back and forth from these guys in recent history has been fun.

Arnie is the real deal American dream personified.
And, tbh, even the Rambo knives are a little too big to be useful as it is, never mind the machete/small sword from Predator.

The Fifth Element is on Amazon Prime. I'm 70 minutes in, and I am revelling in how gloriously goofy and silly this movie is. Haven't watched it since its theatrical release, and I'm thoroughly pleased.

Was Val Kilmer always know behind the scenes as a dick?Island of Dr. Moreau is such a beautifully weird hot mess of a thing.Wow, is Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley's Island of Dr. Moreau an incredible documentary on Amazon. Yea, he was always a pain in the ass and it got worse during and after Batman Forever.
I think he eventually grew up as he seemed pretty well liked by everyone involved in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang AND made a cameo appearance in the Psych finale, so he's definitely awesome now.
Those who worked on Batman Forever weren't particularly surprised that Kilmer opted not to return, as he and Schumacher didn't quite get along.
"Batman Forever, when we were on the world tour, it just really went to his head," says Schumacher of Kilmer's exit, before stopping himself. "I'm not going to get into that. He wanted to do Island of Doctor Moreau because Marlon Brando was going to be in it. So he dropped us at the eleventh hour."
And then he went and did IoDM, which started off with the studio meeting any and every demand he had and only got worse as your dealing with a set where Brando is a dick and gets away with everything and Kilmer tries to see how much he can get away with, etc etc.He was being irrational and ballistic with the first assistant director, the cameraman, the costume people," Schumacher told Entertainment Weekly. "He was rude and inappropriate. He was childish and impossible. I was forced to tell him that this would not be tolerated for one more second. Then we had two weeks where he did not speak to me but it was bliss!"

Real Genius, not so much. But once he had a few lead roles bagged he earned the reputation of being quite the dooshnozzle.

If for some reason you pay for complete access to the How Did This Get Made? archives, their Island of Dr. Moreau episode is a good listen as well.

I watched the documentary on Amazon again last night. It's so good. What a disaster. My favorite parts where the director hiring a warlock back in London to help with the movie getting made. Kilmer and Brando refusing to come out of their trailers because they each wanted the other actor to come out first. Stanley disappearing after he was fired only to be found later right down from the set and he actually got the costumes people to dress him up so he could get back on set and observe for the rest of the movie as an extra. Brando pretty much doing whatever he could to change the movie almost mocking everyone for getting rid of Stanley in the first place. The list is so extensive, it's just so bonkersIf for some reason you pay for complete access to the How Did This Get Made? archives, their Island of Dr. Moreau episode is a good listen as well.

I'll give it a watch. The story of the production of that movie is one of my favorites. Poor David Thewlis.I watched the documentary on Amazon again last night. It's so good. What a disaster. Real Genius is one of my favorite guilty pleasure films. There was talk of a reboot TV show with Kilmer as a mentor to a bunch of new Cal Tech students, but it never got off the ground.Real Genius, not so much.
