It's awesome that Greg Nicotero is working on it given that:
Nicotero claims he began taking an interest in special effects after viewing the film Jaws. He explains: "I kept thinking 'How the hell did they do that?! How'd they build a big giant shark that could eat people?!' So, between that movie, The Exorcist, Planet of the Apes, and of course all of the Universal horror movies [...] I think Jaws and then later Dawn of the Dead were pretty much the two movies that did it for me."
Just a yinzer living the dream.
I've met him a few times and he's been an incredibly cool person every time.
Another noted quasi-yinzer in the FX industry is Tom Woodruff Jr, from Williamsport. (Alamgamated Dynamics, Inc; he and his business partner in ADI Alec Gillis have been involved with the production of every titled Alien movie except the first one and the last one).

Did not even know this was a thing; I thought OG Bruce was destroyed after J2. If this means Bruce is going to eventually be on public display, that is very good news..
FYI: That Bruce shark that Greg Nicotero is refurbishing was not used in Jaws. It is, however, made from the same molds & used to live in the Universal Studios theme park until they sold it to a junkyard owner in the ‘90s. While not screen used, it’s still the closest we got.

Okay, that makes more sense.

Either way, if it means this is for public display I'm all-in.

Just saw Toy Story 4. Yup.. Definitely was quietly ugly crying for a couple minutes... Damn it Pixar.

I was watching Bad Times at the El Royale the other day, and I came to the realization that Chris Hemsworth with an American accent sounds like Bill Murray.

Watched 'Crazy Rich Asians' last night. Aside from offering a good amount of glorious SG pr0n, it was largely enjoyable despite some lazy writing. Awkwafina was pretty funny (I think I connected to her character because I know someone IRL who could be her avatar/stunt double), and I have discovered I have a thing for Gemma Chan (Astrid, the woman whose husband inexplicably cheats on her offscreen with an unnamed woman whose entire presence in the story is summed up in a text message). Much of the ensemble seemed to have a real chemistry with each other, and many scenes had a natural, improvisational vibe, which I very much liked.

The Astrid story line was the worst part of that movie

"So we are approaching the end of the second act, and our hero needs a way to demonstrate her worth."

That will probably be pretty hard to do, given how we're setting up Nick's family as so reticent.

"Actually, it will be super easy. Barely an inconvenience."

Oh really.

"Yeah, we're just gonna have one of the guests at the wedding be a princess who insists on having an entire row of the church to herself. And it turns out this princess has written a scholarly article on the subject in which Rachel is an expert. So we'll have Rachel just, you know, introduce herself, and they'll instantly bond. "

Will there be any sort of set up to that? Like will Rachel talk about that princess or this article at some point prior?

"No sir, this whole thing will just drop out of the sky."

Like on a parachute?

"Exactly. She'll just take a seat next to the princess two rows in front of Nick's mom and aunties, and will be all 'look at how good I am'."

Oh, plot parachutes are tight!

Also, as the opening scene was playing out I said to Mrs Tif, "So does she just, like, buy the hotel or something?" And then later when Astrid comes home and is hiding her shopping, and she has those super fancy earrings, I was like, "Does Rachel end up with those earrings?" And Mrs Tif was like "Will you just watch the movie?" And then they told the story of Eleanor's jade engagement ring, and I was like, "OH, that's what Rachel ends up with." And Mrs Tif was like, "Please stop doing that."

"What's a best man for? I guess that pilot's license came in handy after all." -- Actual line of dialog spoken by a character

Like I said week or so ago, totally fine to get your hero into trouble with a goofy coincidence (the whole 'radio Asia' thing that kicks the movie off; someone that knows who Nick is just happens to be at the same restaurant at the exact moment he's talking about taking Rachel to SG, which prompts this elaborate and extended SMS group convo, never mind the 12-hour time difference) super lazy to get them out of trouble with a coincidence (see: much of the rest of the movie).

28 Days Later: Danny Boyle reveals 'wonderful' idea for third film
https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-ente ... 71776.html

I'm all in. 28 Days Later was great. 28 Weeks Later was okay but had an amazing opening. I'll gladly take 28 Months/Years/Decades/whatever Later.

I can't get behind these movies because of the premise of the infection. It's supposed to be rage. Why don't the infected attack each other? If you are infected with uncontrollable rage you are going to attack/kill/destroy everything, not just the uninfected. This point was driven home when the chained infected soldier attacked the other soldier, then stopped and waited for the second guy to turn so that they could then rampage together.

So either they came up with the infection cause and then did a really poor job in the rest of the story, or they had the idea of the not-undead style if infection but did a poor job of coming up with a cause.

Watched The Natural for the first time. Ehhh...a bit overrated.

Here's my favorite sports movies by sport:
hockey - Mighty Ducks D2
baseball - Major League or Sandlot
football - The Replacements
basketball - White Men Cant Jump
golf - Caddyshack
soccer - Kicking and Screaming

I'm realizing that a lot of these are colored by movies that I watched a lot as a kid

hockey - Miracle or Slap Shot(honorable mention Mystery, Alaska)
baseball - Bull Durham or Field of Dreams. Or League of their Own.
football - Rudy (honorable mention Remember the Titans)
basketball - White Men Cant Jump - yes, you were correct.
golf - Happy Gilmore or Tin Cup.
soccer - Ladybugs?

I’m realizing I really like Kevin Costner sports movies.

supposedly that might set the stage for a sequel. Harry Shum Jr (Asian guy from Glee) had a really high billing for someone who only appears in a scene during the credits so I'm guessing scenes where he had actual dialogue were cut out.
not to mention this is all based on a another trilogy of books.

Rudy has been ruined by my disdain for Notre Dame.

I would have had you as an Air Bud guy all the way.

Similarly, my wife gave me hell the other day for never having seen Space Jam.

basketball - Hoosiers
golf - Caddyshack

Basketball in any capacity doesn't move the needle at all for me.
