In the photos, the Tomcat is also packing an AIM-9 Sidewinder with orange bands, indicating it is a live round. This is certainly for the purposes of filming. The USS Theodore Roosevelt is rumored to be used for the movie's production, so that is likely the carrier we are seeing the Tomcat on. There is a chance that it will set sail with it onboard, which would indicate extensive shooting of the Tomcat while at sea.

Also, keep in mind that this is not a flying aircraft. It is being used as a static prop for ground footage. There are no flying Tomcats anywhere in the world aside from in Iran. The Navy retired the type in 2006 and most were either chopped up or demilitarized and sent to museums. Getting one flying for the movie would be very costly and nearly impossible due to red tape surrounding the Tomcat's sensitive export controls due to their continued use by Iran. There are plenty of other issues as well.
I find it hard to believe that the Navy or Air Force doesn't have a fully functional F-14 hanging around somewhere for publicity shots etc. That's a shame about these expensive jets, is that private collectors can't afford to keep them airworthy like Mustangs, Spitfires, and other old warbirds.

I'm reading Dune for the first time right now.

I don't get why people love it so much.
If you are into reading for the plot alone, you may not like it. But I remember rereading certain portions because it seemed to be pretty profound thinking, in a philosophical sense. The world-building I thought was really neat, as well as the internal struggles within each character.

As far as action is concerned the first book has a decent amount, but after that it's mostly dialogue. Which is why I stopped after the third book. Couldn't keep my interest.

I don't dislike it, i'm not sure about the world building stuff though. Seems like he just imagined a desert planet that had basically no water and what that would entail. I am only halfway through. I think that once he gets in with the Fremen it will be more interesting, as they are still mostly just mysterious at this point.

For the record, I replied to DG's scandalous post regarding the further sullying of the F-14 Tomcat's legacy by its inclusion in, ahem, Top Gun 2: Fly Harder in the military affairs thread. You can probably guess how that went. :P

The Academy has reversed its decision, amid much backlash, and will be airing all awards normally presented on TV during the live broadcast.

Good. Sad they had to be shamed into making the right decision.

for those that aren't familiar, there's a website and app called JustWatch that is amazing for finding films to watch that are on streaming services

You can search any film and see if it is available for any provider and you can select some services and browse all the films available for those services (and you can filter based on IMDB and Rotten Tomato ratings, year of release, etc)

It's legitimately great. I highly recommend it

Watched Ghost over the weekend. What a ridiculous movie. I liked it and it was pretty original, but it was completely different than what I thought it was going to be. I didn't find it to be much of a romantic movie at all and I'd be pissed if I spent all that time making a pot and Swayze came down at 2AM and ruined it, but then again, he can get away with that sort of thing. I can't believe all the Awards noms/wins this thing go, but I guess 1990.

Also introduced kids to Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and that movie will never ever get old.

Ant Man and the Wasp was pretty good. .

40 Years in the Making: The Magic Music Movie on Prime was a good documentary. I enjoyed it very much.

dodint and Sundance is one of my favorite movies ever.

From that, Newnan and Redford went on to work with director George Roy Hill again on The Sting, and then Newnan worked with him again on Slap Shot. What a run.

it really is a perfect movie. I guess you could say the same about The Sting and Slapshot.
