Matthew McConaughey being rumored for Harvey Dent in The Batman, which is being described as "very much like a Sherlock Holmes story with Catwoman as Batman’s Irene Adler & Riddler as his Moriarty. Reeves is also building a world similar to the animated shows & comics where all the villains are already out there."

I'm becoming increasingly optimistic about this.

Hell yes! I loved the first two, even if the second one was critically panned. They are popcorn-eating fun for me. And Tea Leone was hot as hell in II.

Scorcese has so many good movies that are not part of the gangster genre.

Taking a side in this debate is a waste of time. It's not like Scorcese stating why he doesn't consider superhero movies to be cinema matters to anyone. Can't one still enjoy those movies and not have any issue with what Scorcese thinks?

correct. I can't believe it's even a debate. I'm sure there are people out there who have sworn off his movies because of his opinion too. crazy times.

I think I like the 2nd one ever better than the first. It's just all out crazy Michael Bay!

Scorsese and Coppola are objectively correct. Movies, generally, are worse off for having been mired in a 10-year glut of overly-CG'd noisy monstrosities. Superhero movies are utterly stupid.

There is a perpetually aggrieved class of people. I'm sure part of this is fueled by Marvel shills that feel compelled to defend their hobby. But there's also the click bait class that need to pull this into the broader divide in this country. (see Nick Gillespie)

And even if they're wrong, they are still entitled to their own opinion. I'm sure that there a bunch of twits who immediately framed that opinion as validation to their "cultural superiority". But Scorcese is not a cultural gatekeeper, he's a dude that is expressing an opinion shared by lots of people that think superhero movies are dull as ****.

I don't care who the on-camera actor is for Batman so long as they have Kevin Conroy ADR the dialogue.

Good read on Joe Pesci: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/06/movi ... e=Homepage
Tommy DeVito is entertaining fellow gangsters with stories of his exploits when one of his listeners, Henry Hill, tells him he’s funny. The laughter at the loudest table in the restaurant abruptly dies.

Tommy, played by Joe Pesci in a career-defining performance, asks, “Funny how?”

Henry (Ray Liotta) is too unsettled to explain himself — he’s intimately familiar with the extent of Tommy’s brutality — but Tommy keeps pushing him. “I’m funny how? Funny, like I’m a clown? Do I amuse you?” The two men silently lock eyes. Henry chuckles nervously and raises his hands in defeat.

After a few beats, Tommy reveals that it was all a big joke, and everybody at the table starts loudly laughing again, as if they had all been in on the bit. Then the owner of the restaurant interjects, asking that Tommy pay his bill. Tommy, irate for real this time, viciously beats him.

This scene — said to be based on Pesci’s own experience of praising a gangster’s sense of humor back when he was waiting tables — is among the most iconic in the Martin Scorsese drama “Goodfellas,” from 1990. After all, Tommy is emblematic of the flamboyant, jocular, psychopathic nature of many of Scorsese’s protagonists, including the enforcer he later plays in “Casino.”

But what makes the character so captivating is Pesci’s comedic timing and talent for recessive naturalism, skills that have made his on-screen appearances consistently intriguing yet underappreciated. Though he has been largely written off as a character actor, one who only could play variations on squawking wiseguys like Tommy, his career has long begged for reappraisal.

Pesci is a fascinating guy. I always like to catch interviews when on rare occasion he does give them.

I have not, but see it's streaming on Amazon and I'm pretty excited! Have you ever seen The Gate? It's also on Amazon and I know I've seen it when I was younger, but I can't remember too much besides that.
