I just watched Ghostbusters on VHS on a CRT tv tonight. It just feels right. Like it's meant to be watched that way.

When i started dating my wife, my inlaws had one of those absurdly large big screens that you can't see from more than a 45 degree angle or so. Technology has come a long way in 30 years.

Don't get me wrong I love my 4k movies and Ghostbusters looks incredible on 4k as well, but old movies like it just feels like a comfort watching in a VHS tape on a CRT. Makes me feel like a kid again.

I would’ve given it to Brendan Gleeson but Ke Huy Quan is so damn likable that I’m not mad about it.

Highlights of the evening so far:

- JLC thanking genre fans
- KHQ being so damn earnest
- The dance from AAA
- Salma Hayek *sigh*

Hon mention: The Super Hornets that did the flyby for the opening overflew or house on their way home for an unexpected dodint aggrivation level-up.

Who would’ve thought that Short Round would win an Oscar before Indy.

I watched the Oscars (at least the first hour or so) for the first time in like 10 years. Was happy for Data to win the Oscar.

Also, they mentioned John Williams and showed him for the opening, and while it makes complete sense he is 91, for some reason I never realized he was that old. And he looks pretty damn good too.

I used to watch the Oscars end to end, but the last several years, I just drop in for the big awards or just read about it the next morning. I mostly played video games and watched The Last of Us, then caught the last 90 minutes or so.

Good to see James Hong (94) and John Williams out and about last night. James Hong has 5 upcoming/unreleased roles coming up - impressive for a guy born in 1929.

John Towner and Spielberg just did an extended interview together w Stephen Colbert, and he's on the schedule for his annual conducting gig at the Hollywood Bowl this summer. He's not slowing down, not yet anyway, even if Indy 5 is his last job.

Walt Disney died after amassing 59 individual Oscar nominations. JTW is currently at 53, with one more chance, so call it 54 for his career. And seriously maybe 14 or so of those nominations put him in competition against himself. (That would actually be an interesting trivia Q; most self-fraternizing nominations) It's hard to really conceptualize the insanely high level of quality and consistency.

calling him “John Towner” is a classic tif move :slug:

that said it’s sad to realize he’s in his 90s. Star Wars was the first soundtrack that I fell I love with in the mid-90s (my parents has the vinyl record) and a medley of his was my absolute favorite song to play in high school concert band. You don’t realize how many famous works he’s done (including but not limited to the NBC news theme).

He’s a very important figure in cinema and how I interact with it. I love a good movie score
