Almost as annoying as people who blindly praise movies that get critical acclaim are the people who blindly hate movies for the same reason.
Movie Thread
I'm actually the opposite and usually find something to like in just about everything I watch and I would say I don't get to see as much as I want in the theater, but do a pretty good job at getting out for everything. I think a problem with a lot of the movies I find fault with is that I usually read the book and they are usually far superior and I don't understand why they would sacrifice this or that when there is an amazing story in there.Question for the people here that think every movie sucks, do you see movies at home or in the theater?

Yeah, most books don't translate to movie form.

From the list Jim posted, I'll put Life of Pi as an exception. Both are terrific.Yeah, most books don't translate to movie form.

She **** a fish, tho, Jim. Certainly there is a metaphor there.
I'm just saying that it has to be an egg laying society...

Have you seen all these movies? I haven't, and I am sure that some suck, but why are you shitting on Birdman and Inception?mikey, DD, dodint, eddy.......... I want Jim's take on this.
Also, the fact that you are all saying Her is crap belies the point at the heart of the take; that there's a mass habit of people saying a plainly stupid movie is great because it's critically well-received and they don't want to look stupid.
So you finally accepted it.
I don't have a list... Fargo might have been the first that I noticed the trend. Zeezu chases the beatlejuice-esque looking shark (or whatever it was called) is another that pops into mind. But many can just be pulled from best picture lists. Looking at best picture nominees: BlacKkKlansman; Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri; The Shape of Water; The Revenant; Birdman; Her; Gravity; Life of Pi; Inception; Inglourious Basterds; Atonement... there is a lot of movies that fall under this. Critics say it is good, it actually sucks buffalo balls, but people say it is really good for no other reason that critics say that it is good. You ask the person what is good about it and you get, "Um,well... it's um... the uh... the Director of Photogr... well, there are these angles... the kooky music maybe... the one actor did this um... its deep."
If you don't know anyone that does this, it is probably you doing it.
The one's that I listed I have seen. Other than saying "I have no interest in seeing that" I tend to not poo poo movies that I have not seen.

You what now?I think Jurassic Park is better than the book.

Just an FYI... I was sort of asked for a list so to come up with something I just Googled "Best Picture Nominees" and grabbed some that I have seen and that stood out as bad. That wasn't a definitive list or my top-worst picks or such, it was just an example list.

That list was everything I was hoping it would be; thank you for your service, Jim.

I liked Basterds...
Life of Pi probably fits in well here...tif will likely defend it, with its overwhelming theme of paraphrasing,..

Random: Can one like Fargo and not like Pulp Fiction...?
Movie Thread
Well, one cannot not like Pulp Fiction, so...
Movie Thread
Add Pulp Fiction to the list of movies I haven't seen.

Pulp Fiction is somehow immensely quotable but also bad; a chore.

I enjoyed Pulp Fiction when it came out, but the novelty wore off. I'm sure it's been 15 years or so since I've seen it.
I rewatch Fargo every 2 or 3 years.

Cool. Always willing to help out the less fortunate.

I think I’ve seen Pulp Fiction too many times so now I have zero desire to watch it again. If I want a Tarantino movie, I’ll watch one that I haven’t seen as much like Jackie Brown or Hateful 8.

More random questions since Jim is off the hook...
If, say, "Burn After Reading" came out before Fargo or the Big Lebowski, is it the immensely popular cult classic? Do they switch spots just on timing alone...? Is there really any more meat on the bone for one vs the other, actually?

just watched it within the last couple weeks and I kinda agree with this and his movies in general. Please don't take this as me bashing QT, but there are so many talented directors out there now and with his 10 movies over 30 years or whatever, there is just a whole lot awesome stuff to choose from.Source of the post I enjoyed Pulp Fiction when it came out, but the novelty wore off

Burn After Reading was enjoyable but left no last impact on me whatsoever. And I love both Fargo and Lebowski. Each of which has standout performances. All I remember from BAR is Brad Pitt was in it along with J. K. Simmons.
Movie Thread
Quite possibly because of the timing, but I'd probably say no just because I don't think it's one of their best offerings. You got Raising Arizona, Miller's Crossing, Barton Fink and Hudsucker Proxy before those and they are all as different from one another as you can get and I'd say they all have cult status to some degree.More random questions since Jim is off the hook...
