Oscars still matter. In the days since its best picture win, Parasite has raked in 8.8mil domestically, which accounts for a whopping 20% of its domestic BO. It's weekend haul of 5.5mil was a 234% increase in ticket sales, the biggest boost for a best picture winner in the past decade.

Oscars still influence those that can't make decisions for themselves or decide what kind of films that they themselves want to see.

Saw it yesterday with my wife. Was this year a weak year for films? I liked the movie, but with all the awards it has won internationally I don't get the hype.
No, this was a very good year. Last year was not good.

I would have been good with irishman or once upon a time in Hollywood. But I think those two movies, the sum was less than the parts. The former driven by the performances from peschi and pachino, the latter by the two stars.

I think parasite was a complete movie, i think though, like reading a book, the movie does require the viewer to have some engagement and ask yourself what’s happening, you can’t just sit there and passively watch to get the premise.

This guy was the dealer in Rain Man, Casino, Vegas Vacation, among others. Sadly he died at 58.

***moon landing***

Saw the Magnificent 7 remake today. I liked it, of course I like westerns as well. Nothing was too great but it delivered cowboy action that I enjoyed.

The Peanut Butter Falcon was terrific! Funniest heartwarming movie I've seen in quite some time. My kids loved it and it sparked a really good conversation on kindness afterwards. Nice seeing Jake the Snake Roberts on the big screen.
