Tim Burton + live-action Dumbo

Hmm.

Dumbo tugs at some personal heart strings for me: My uncle applied to be an animator at Disney in the 70s or early 80s, and one of the 'audition' requirements was to illustrate something that captured the essence of your hometown that believably incorporated as many Disney characters as possible. So he did Casey Junior going around the Horseshoe Curve with like 100 characters spilling out, and Dumbo flying overhead (providing close air support, I guess). He had the original (which he sent to Burbank with his application) copied and framed, so every time we visited his house we saw the illustration. He didn't get the gig, but to be completely honest the work he created was really super cool.

What are the chances Burton includes the racist crows?

It'll be a fan-service cameo, not actual singing crows who've seen needles winking their eyes. Like, the camera will pan across the big top, and two crows will fly away - CAW CAW - and that will be about it.

Maybe one of the characters will say "Hiya Jim" at the crow?

Revisiting Dumbo as an adult and watching that scene was pretty shocking. How you gonna name a jive-talking crow "Jim Crow" and then on top of that have it voiced by a white dude doing a stereotypical black impression? I had similar eye-opening experiences watching some old Tom and Jerry shorts.

Pretty sure that qualifies as sexual harassment now.

As if this family wasn't weird enough....

https://people.com/movies/jada-pinkett- ... leasuring/
The actress talks all about sex in the newest episode of her Facebook Watch show Red Table Talk alongside her mother Adrienne Banfield-Jones, 64, and her 17-year-old daughter Willow.

After Banfield-Jones admits that she had negative early experiences with sex due to her conservative upbringing, Pinkett Smith reveals that she “came into it differently” thanks to her grandmother.

“My grandmother taught me about self-pleasuring because she wanted me to know that that pleasure was from me,” Pinkett Smith says. “She didn’t want me to fall into the hands of a man, and if he gave me pleasure, to think that that was him. And she taught me at 9!”
This is disturbing on multiple levels. First, a grandmother teaching her nine year old granddaughter how to diddle herself. Second, talking about this experience with your mother and 17 year old daughter present. Good lord.

This actually makes me happy. The family has always seemed odd but now it's easy to pinpoint that Jada is the weirdo. I knew Uncle Phil raised Will better than recent shenanigans would suggest.

Okay, so 9 is probably too young but it doesn't seem too outlandish to me. My sexual education consisted of a sixth grade health teacher showing us pictures of STDs and saying if you have have sex you're definitely going to get pregnant and get a disease. It was terrifying.

A grown woman teaching a nine year old to masturbate is outlandish and borderline criminal. There's a happy medium between that and abstinence education.

OK, I'm relieved

DD has a good take on that one...yes, it does make me feel better about Will. Jada ruined him.

I'm just saying thinking back to pubescent me, I wish somebody I trusted talked to me about sex in a realistic and honest way. Instead most people are left to figure out for themselves what the **** is going on with their body. The intent seems okay (assuming it was talking and not, you know, showing) but yeah wait another 3 or 4 years.

I've always heard (no personal experience) that girls need to know about sex ed earlier than boys, since they're so often victimized. I don't know if that's entirely accurate, but I knew a girl who became pregnant and gave birth while in 6th grade so there might be something to it.

I'm way more at ease with a grandmother teaching her young granddaughter about self-pleasure in private than I was my 70-year old gym teacher talking about orgasms in a room full of 40 teenagers.

She is so improbably attractive, it's not even funny. For all my snark about superhero movies, WW was very good (right up to when the superhero stuff started), and I'll likely see WW84.

My wife loved the first WW. So I know I’ll get to watch gal gadot, I mean Wonder Woman, again.

Incredibles 2 was very, very good. I don’t think quite as good as the original, but pretty close.

The Mr Rogers documentary was well done. Got kind of dusty in the theater at the end.
