There's only so much that up-ressing can do.

this movie is going to be so weird and I'm excited for the trailer Friday. Also, they built giant sets so the humans are cat sized.

There are very few devices available that can take a 480i signal and upconvert it to 4k and make it look even halfway decent. It's just too far of a jump.

I'm even somewhat skeptical of up-ressing 1080p to 4k, which is why I've been reluctant to upgrade until most content is 4k. The gap from 480 to 1080 is a jump that's like 1/4 the number of pixels as going from 1080 to 4k, or something bonkers like that.

I've been surprised at how well my Sony upscales 1080 to 4k. There have been times where I've seen the 1080 upscale look better than 4k content (streaming). Game of Thrones streaming on HBO GO/NOW being an incredible example of how good it can look. On the other side of that, I've seen some sets that definitely don't do as nice as what I've seen Sony put out.

What eddy said. So far, I've been impressed with the process on my Sony, and it was one of the biggest selling points for me. I have my TiVo set to pass native 1080i so that the Sony handles upscaling, and most things looks great. It always depends on the source content, and FiOS is strong in that regard.

Awesome. Wonder if this trailer will be another awesome scene from the movie that they decide to play in it's entirety.

I'm glad I waited for it to show up on one of my streaming services. Good enough but wasn't worth a theater trip.

This. I thought it was fine, but I remember the CGI parts not being scary and taking me out of the flick.

Watched The Rock last night. That is some movie, teared up a few times. Cinema at its finest.

Exactly my thoughts. The tension was great but when the reveals finally happen they're laughable because the CGI is so bad.

Watched From Russia with Love with my boys last night.

They liked it, but thought it was slow in some points. Might try another Connery film tonight - Goldfinger or Thunderball I guess. My oldest wants to jump right to the Craig films, but he needs to learn some history first.

I feel a bit like oldmangetoffmylawn.gif but for horror movies, I really believe old school practical FX blow away any CGI. Look at Rob Bottin's work in The Thing. It's a million times better and creepier than any of the CGI in the IT remake.

It's going to be dumb fun and I expect nothing more.

It is going to be hard to get past how weird Jay looks with his new post-meth teeth, though.

While I'm posting trailers, here's this:

I had no idea Bill Hader was in this.

Teeth is definitely weird. Is that Val kilmer as bluntman?

Beware: This is the red band trailer so NSFW.
Why does Jay's upper lip/teeth look so odd in the trailer but not in the blurb that they do after? Are they spoofing Superman's re-shoot upper lip during the entire film?

It still looks weird in the blurb afterward. He literally has all new teeth because he lost all of them due to drug use.
