This looks fun. I love the animation style (thanks Spider-verse). This is probably the youngest version of these characters that we've seen on the screen. Definitely in their early teens. I'm pretty sure Michael Bay's TMNT were in their late 30s.

Oh no... April is black now. Boycott incoming.
That said, it might be my daughter's first in theater movie. She hasn't been yet and this looks good enough to take her... not to mention she loves TMNT and is wearing a TMNT dress today to preschool.

Def skip it. Comedy sequels tend to have a pretty low batting average, and this one is no exception.

Sisu was bonkers. Highly recommended, but not if you are looking for a realistic war movie. Think more Rambo sequel meets Where Eagles Dare married to Inglourious Basterds. 90 minute runtime, too. <chef's kiss>
Evidently, Netflix has a similar movie about lost gold called Blood and Gold. Sisu's director met with Netflix to get them to pay for and distribute the film, but they wanted a big action scene to open the film. He declined, and went a different direction. I think Blood and Gold was the film they picked up instead.

More inclined to boycott on account of April being a babe in every other iteration suddenly becoming a frumpy bookish uggo. It's like they looked at the new Velma casting and thought, yeah, sure, that works.Oh no... April is black now. Boycott incoming.

In the most recent one that I've watched with my kid, she's a high school teenager that likes video games. So this one certainly didn't start that trend. Unless of course you find 16 year olds as total "babes"... dodint is a pedo, confirmed.

So, in my exhaustive preparation for that post I went to Google and typed in "April TMNT" and going back to '87 they were all attractive from what I could see. Even the comic the mixed race portrayal is based on was attractive. Frumpiness not found.
I'd feel the same way if there was a fat Catwoman. And by 'feel' I mean I'd say 'hey, they made the character fat and unattractive, huh' and then never think about it again.

Of course, April O'Neil in the 2016 movie is played by none other than Megan Fox.

Is she a babe or frumpy, or is she a cartoon and there's no need to overthink any of this...

I don't get all the hand wringing when a cartoon character or even a fictional character is modified. They aren't real, what's the big deal? April can be Fat Albert dressed in an April suit for all I care. I wouldn't watch the movie but it's not my choice to decide what April is.

I also don't get wishing a cartoon character in a children's movie was more of a babe but here we are.

Comic book heroes should probably have aspirational qualities. Redesigning them to align with a notion of body positivity makes sense from a certain perspective, but these characters are meant to be exceptional so I think it's okay to depict them as someone that can climb a set of stairs without getting winded.

April is just a regular person. She's always been just a regular person. The exceptional ones are, you know, the mutant ninja turtles.

That's just downplaying April's contributions to the genre. Shame on you.

She has played various rolls in various renditions of the TMNT. Each one has been slightly different or even dramatically different. The April for me as a kid was a grown-up and a reporter. The April that my kid knows is a 16 year old who is part human and part alien and has telepathic powers.April is just a regular person. She's always been just a regular person. The exceptional ones are, you know, the mutant ninja turtles.

I'm not saying she's not capable, just that she's not a superhero. She's a civilian forced into heroic situations because of her friendship with the turtles. Because she's a regular person, I think it's okay that she looks like a regular person. If you really want an April O'Neil to get your rocks off to, there's that other April O'Neil that I mentioned a few posts up.

I was gonna say I was most bothered by how young Donatello sounds but then I remembered what the first “T” in TMNT stood for
I’m so used to the live action film where the voice actors were all 20-32 years old (Corey Feldman voiced Donatello in that and was 20 at the time)
