In non-furry news, Raya and the Last Dragon is getting amazing reviews. It's available today with "premier access" on D+, which means I won't be watching it until it becomes available for free w/ sub on June 4. The trailers were a bit underwhelming but the reviews are killer.
That's indeed surprising, 'cause yeah, the trailers looked like trash.

Judas and the Black Messiah was very good, and about a subject I knew little about. Daniel Kaluuya was excellent as Fred Hampton.

This is HBO right? I watched the trial of the Chicago seven, his death was connected a bit, but they didn't address it beyond just sort of announcing that it happened. Speaking of gross, homicidal, government misconduct, I watched about half of Kill the Messenger earlier, I stopped it at the apex, before the CIA plants across the major newspapers in the country ruin Gary Webb's life. So I just watched the good part where a talented reporter exposes the CIA's role in the cocaine supplies into the US in the 1980's and runs the expose. I couldn't stomach watching the hacks at the NYtimes, WaPo and LA times run obstruction for the government on this story.

Yeah, it's on HBO until the 14th, I believe. Worth checking out.

Frustrating seeing the same **** play out over and over in this country.
Chicago PD, under the watchful eye/help of the FBI straight up assassinated Fred Hampton.

I saw that pop up in Netflix list. Written by the same guy who created Warrior, fwiw. May check it out, when I’m in the right mood.

It's super predictable and has been done hundreds of times, but Harris, Sedikis(sp) and Olsen all do a great job.

Raya and the Last Dragon was okay at best. The main character looks far too much like Moana, and they copied a good number of themes from that one in this, but didn’t execute well. Awkwafina was annoying. Definitely one of those animated movies that you watch once and never again.

Coming 2 American was better than I thought it would be but my expectations were way low. 3.5/5 for me. I laughed out loud several times. Lots of good call backs as one would expect but it wasn't too much at all. Definitely worth a watch.

That’s what I’ve heard. Go in with zero expectations and it won’t be too bad.

This was literally my first experience watching anything with her in it. Even my daughter didn’t really like the movie that much.

Anyone else who can't watch dubbed movies no matter how critically acclaimed?

It's difficult, no doubt. I think it's missing out on a lot of the language/tone context.

Movie trivia. What was Liz Taylor's final film role? No cheating... But I'll give you a hint. It had a RT score under 30%.

Yeah. Was just ok. Felt pretty low effort. Didn’t think Aquafina was that bad. Just a meh character

My guess was The Mirror Crack'd. Wrong.

Nice. I remember her being in it and remember it being hated, but it seemed too long ago for that to be her last film role. Guess she felt the same as Sean Connery after The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Meanwhile, there’s one thing I have fond memories of from seeing The Flintstones as an 8 year old.

Rewatched Coming to America last night and didn't find it as funny as I remembered it. Sad. Not sure I'll bother with the sequel.

Sound of Metal was excellent, highly recommended. Riz Ahmed should get an Oscar nom for it.

Operation Finale - about the capture of Adolf Eichmann in Argentina - was just OK. Oscar Isaac can play about any ethnicity; a true utility actor. He and Kingsley were good in it.

We've been slowly watching every Disney animated feature in order. We just finished up the 1970s with The Rescuers and man what a great movie. It's been fun seeing some of these movies that for whatever reason I missed as I kid (including Rescuers). We decided not to watch the package films like Fun and Fancy Free or The Three Caballeros. We also skipped the combined live action/animated films such as Poppins and stuck to 100% animated feature films.

The most interesting aspect has been the evolution of animation styles. The glossy painted look of Snow White/Bambi/Sleeping Beauty to the sketchy xerox photocopying of 101 Dalmatians and others through the 60s & 70s. It'll be cool to see it evolve again once computer technology ramps up in the 80s.
