Watched Spielbergs War of the Worlds last night. I don't think I've seen it since it came out and I really don't remember it being as intense as it was. My son read the book, so I said we'd watch the movie and I think it may have been too much for the 6 year old. That is a dark and scary flick. I don't remember the reception being very well, but I have to say that I thought it was incredible. There are so many holy **** moments! Man, do I love Spielberg!

I will also say that movie may be the closest to R rated PG-13 movie I've seen. If it's been a while since you've seen it, watch it again. There was such a better understanding of everything the 2nd time around for me. It may be his most underappreciated movie.

Dakota Fanning was incredible in that movie. When the movie first came out, I remember being utterly terrified by the sound design on the tripods. Mrs Tif and I saw it at the Mann Village theater in Westwood, which is something like a 90'-wide screen with a 22,000 watt sound system; the first time a tripod unveiled itself in the movie and let out that honk it physically shook the entire theater. I had a quasi flashback to that moment when I played Bioshock Infinite the first time and a similar sound played out at the lighthouse in the opening moments of the game.
You've hit peak Hollywood when your movie buys an actual 747 to turn into a crash site. It was bonkers going to Universal Hollywood after that movie came out, because they laid out that crash site as part of the studio tour. (And a quick consult of ye Google Mappes shows that the crash is still on display.)
That movie also is highly highly Spielbergian in the way that he frames a lot of shots, particularly in that tripod reveal: Reflections to create two-shots with actors and the thing they're looking at out-of-frame, viewing the action on the preview screen of a camcorder rather than directly, etc.

I have a pretty decent sound system at home and I read the bluray gets highly reviewed as a reference disc so I cranked it. My daughter watched a lot of the movie under a blanket because of how loud and scary the sounds were. I had a giant grin on my face!Source of the post Dakota Fanning was incredible in that movie. Absolutely beautiful camera work throughout the entire movie. When they are escaping the city in the van and the camera bobs and weaves inside and around the van as Dakota was screaming, wow, it completely blew my mind seeing how incredible his camera work is. Just incredible stuff!Source of the post That movie also is highly highly Spielbergian in the way that he frames a lot of shots, particularly in that tripod reveal: Reflections to create two-shots with actors and the thing they're looking at out-of-frame, viewing the action on the preview screen of a camcorder rather than directly, etc.

And I don't know if it was his little nod to Night of the Living Dead, but the farm house scene with all the survivors running through the fog. Just awesome!

I used to watch the Shazam tv show on Saturday mornings back in the 70s.This prompted a wiki search for me and I discovered that he was officially renamed Shazam in 2011. The character has a pretty interesting history, publishing wise.Had they used the original name the confusion over DC making a movie titled “Captain Marvel” would have been enjoyable.
Also learned Shazam is an acronym for Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles and Mercury.

I've met his son Cody before, he seemed like a really cool guy. I'm beyond excited about this movie!

watched Ready Player One last night. Loved it in the theater and was quite pleased again last night. Spielberg crafted a wonderful 80s movie that has brought all the emotions of being a kid and watching all of these flicks back again!

http://collider.com/deadwood-movie/?utm ... ium=socialAt the Television Critics Association press tour today, HBO President of Programming Casey Bloys addressed a question the network has been asked for the last 11 years: What is the status of the Deadwood movie? Well folks, buckle up because it’s actually happening! Bloys confirmed that a continuation of David Milch‘s series Deadwood — as a movie — has been greenlighted by HBO, with production set to start this fall (in October). Daniel Minahan — who, in addition to the original run of Deadwood, has been a longtime collaborator with HBO for series like Game of Thrones, True Blood, and Big Love — will direct the movie.

Saw The Last Jedi there. The theater is fantastic. Great picture. Great sound. Overall just a great way to experience a the audio and visuals of a movie.Have you been? How is the theater? However, they left the concrete bowl seating structure from when it was the Omnimax theater, so the seating is damn near vertical with no room to recline back and barely enough room for me to stick my size 10s on the ground without having to contort myself. Needing to go the bathroom during a movie would be an act of attempted suicide as there is zero space to walk in front of someone. The entire row would have to vacate to let someone out.
