Those tweets were offensively unfunny.

Those are just horribly unfunny and it's hard to wrap my head around why anyone would publicly post that crap.

Also strange that it only surfaced now... Did he piss someone/some group off?

They're unfunny in in terrible taste, but Gunn came from Troma which is the epitome of in your face, offensive "humor." They're the shock jocks of the movie world.

That looks outstanding. But now I wonder if I need to watch Split first.

Gunn is a vocal Trump critic. No idea what specifically caused it he he was targeted by alt-righters who are claiming all his comments are evidence of an extensive Hollywood pedophilia conspiracy. Looks like 4chan had a lot of involvement. Gunn apologized six years ago for posting shitty stuff on the internet, guess he just waited too long to delete all of it. The dude that “broke” the story likes to tweet shitty things of his own:

Meanwhile Ben Shapiro, of all people, thinks that firing Gunn sets a terrible precedent.
I think @JamesGunn is an a**hole, as my exchange with him earlier this week made clear. I also think that firing him for vile old joke tweets is bad precedent and a mistake. There is no limiting principle to the outrage mob.
Everyone has gone full retard.

Hard to believe another facet of liberal pc culture wars is getting out of hand.

I dont think anyone was ever in favor of mobs causing people to lose their jobs for being offensive. It's not going to stop and people are getting tired of it, but nice to see it getting applied across the board.

Gunn was all over Roseanne, so his tons of kiddy sex jokes are probably fair game.

Mission Impossible: Fallout sitting at 96% on RT. That series gets better with age.

Why "of all people"? Shapiro is consistent on this whole fire people for tweets thing.

Because the two of them have gone at it on Twitter quite a lot.

And, as usual, just because Shapiro disagrees with him politically doesn't mean he thinks he should be punished for it.

Split is his best film since Signs so there's that.

Agreed. Aquaman looks fine I guess. People look kinda plasticky, which was weird. Shazam looks fantastic though. Much better than I ever expected.

I mistakingly thought it was a Kazaam remake, and then thought of Andy Dwyer....

Honest to God they were remaking Shazam from the 90s. And then promptly remembered that movie doesn't exist. Mandela effect ftw

Kazaam is deeply discouraged that everyone is confusing him with Shazam.

Had they used the original name the confusion over DC making a movie titled “Captain Marvel” would have been enjoyable.

This prompted a wiki search for me and I discovered that he was officially renamed Shazam in 2011. The character has a pretty interesting history, publishing wise.

Also learned Shazam is an acronym for Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles and Mercury.
