As nocera said, there’s a primary conceit you have to buy into for the story to work, which it did for me. Things that didn’t necessarily work:

I went in with the lowest of expectations but ended up loving The Matrix Resurrections. It wasn’t perfect and no sequel will ever touch the original, but I thought it was awesome. Easily the best sequel, which is saying something because despite not really liking 2 or 3 I always thought they gave a clean, concise ending and was unconvinced about going back to this universe, but I really like the direction this took and thought it improved where the story ended.

To your last point, it was annoyingly self aware in the first act. Took me out of it for sure.

We watched Encanto last night. Pretty good. Music had a very Hamilton vibe. Probably because Lin Manuel Miranda helped/wrote the music. Imagine Hamilton meets moana and you’ve got the soundtrack.

I just randomly tuned into Carrey's grinch movie from 2000. While Carrey's Grinch portrayal is actually pretty good imo, the whole portrayal of Whoville is bizarrely dystopian and really uncomfortable. I was rooting for the Grinch from almost the beginning.

The grinch never really hated Christmas. He hated loud annoying neighbors…can we blame him???

Spider-Man was excellent. Marvel really knows how to do it.

I just realized tonight that Best in Show has an exterior flyover shot of Mellon Arena.

Watched Don't Look Up.
I give it two stars out of four. I love good satire, but not when it's in your face ridiculous for over two hours. Got very dark quickly. Started to feel like a vanity project after a while.
We watched it with my inlaws... When it was over, my MiL said she liked the message.

We’ve watched encanto 3 times since it’s been available on Disney +. Love the soundtrack and the overall message: don’t burden younger generations with your fears, insecurities, and anger. Let them live their life. Or at least that’s what I took away from it.
Also, john leguizamo plays a fantastic crazy/misunderstood person.

Idiocracy is outstanding, even if it did end up being a non-fiction flick in the end.

That sounds like a horror story written by AI.
