Prestige projects and originality go the route of premium TV/streaming anymore.
Yep. The chance of a "serious" film (without some sort of a link to another IP) turning a profit in a theatrical release is smaller than ever.
I guess you still have the legacy film makers like Nolan making thoughtful original content, at least.

I think I enjoy the shift though. A good story takes time to tell. And the 3 hour movies are impossible to sit through anymore. So this is different, but ok.

I don’t miss movie theaters at all.

Monster Hunter was dumb, but watchable as I was simply trying to pass some time.

Godzilla vs Kong was fun to watch just as a monster fight movie. I didn't care about the plot and just wanted to see monster fights and it delivered that way. Plus it looked gorgeous.

I've not seen either version of Justice League, but these guys are good.

Watched the ultimate snydercut or whatever of batman vs superman. First time I saw it, it was terrible. Now it is a little less terrible. It is still joyless and bleak and I can't believe it's a superhero movie. For 3 hours, it went by faster than I thought it would. It looks nice? That's about all the good things I can think of.

I'm download a ton of 80s and 90s movies for travel, and need some Steven Seagal flicks to balance out the JCVD ones I already have. Which 3-4 should I go with?

Watched Beverly hills Ninja with the kids and it did exactly what it was supposed to. Love that movie.

The first three for sure.

And let’s not forget Under Siege.

Under Siege is the obvious one that doesn't need to be recommended, like Bloodsport. I'm going down a rabbit hole and have already started looking for Jet Li movies, Jackie Chan, etc.

I keep finding stuff that I loved as a kid and adding it to the list. Was going to roll with just action movies, but sci fi cannot be ignored.

haha i just used that like a month ago. only my sister has ever got it.

On Deadly Ground was not great but I loved it like all the other Seagal ones from that era.

Any love for Under Siege II? That was one of my favorite movies as a teenager. My buddy and I used to quote "Who the f*** is Casey f****** Ryback?" and "Chance favors the prepared mind." repeatedly to each other.
