I didn’t like Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. And that pains me to write as a fan of Tarantino.

The John mulaney lunch bunch kids or whatever the new special thing is called is tremendous. So weird, sweet and funny.

He’s the best. His standup, specifically the “What’s new pussycat”, makes me cry of laughter everytime

I can't believe all the memories that rushed back watching this one, that's exactly how I remember those shows. He really did something amazing, it was almost like his stand up routine in musical skit form. Jake Gyllenhaal was unreal.

Really liked 1917. Great attention to detail.

I also liked once upon a time in Hollywood. Not amazing, but Pitt and Decaprio were great.

Small thing from 1917:
When he gashes his hand on the wire my thought was "Oh, that sucks, he's going to get a wicked infection." About 90 seconds later he plants it in the chest of a corpse. "Well, now he's going to lose it."

Introduced kids to Once upon a time in the west last night. After watching them grow up with framed pictures of Charles Bronson around the house, wife playing soundtrack on piano and my duster on random occasions, it was awesome watching their faces see and hear it all come together. Luckily they thought it was unlike anything they've seen before and they past the test for watching the greatest movie ever made and I will keep them around for a while. Followed that up with As good as it gets. Enjoyed it very much.

The Peanut Butter Falcon was great, one of those movies that just sort of makes you hold a smile for most of the film.

Subjected myself to midsommar, I have difficulty understanding the draw of movies like this.

I don't think I realized how badly I want to drink some beers and watch 80s movies with John Carpenter and Kurt Russell, but damn do I ever.

Interesting. I'll probably try it then.

I keep thinking i should watch midsommar but something holds me back. What's it like that makes you say that

He crushed that bit. Really made me want to see him do more comedic roles. Just so good.

The bait-and-swtich towards the end of the Algebra song got me really good as well.

Yeah it's kinda just "there." Pitt was a lot of fun though.

Performances were all great. I just wish they had a story to tell. Once the film finally gets to the climax, it feels like a complete retread for QT.
It was basically Inglourious Basterds except that ending felt earned. This one felt like QT didn't know how to end his movie.

Hahaha . Yes indeed. Dunno if I'll be catching that one though. LW I got to be all artsy and see it on 35mm when I was in nyc recently, which was the main draw in not waiting 'til video.

Knives Out was well done. Good old fashioned murder mystery.

Ana de Armas will be in the new Bond movie. Which I am all for.

the master wasn't great, and i started watching inherent vice but after 5 minutes, i asked myself, "why?" and turned it off

was a big PTA guy for a long time. i have doubts that he still has it. maya rudolph ruins everything, i guess
I was fascinated by The Master. I thought Joaquin Phoenix was incredible and it was an absolutely beautifully shot movie. Inherent Vice was great goofy fun that actually made the pages of the novel come to life and that in itself is quite the achievement. Going back and looking at everything PTA did, I still think Hard Eight is my favorite.
Watched this on a flight today mostly because I love Phillip Seymour Hoffman. I thought the acting was unreal. Phoenix and Hoffman were great...outstanding. What was weird is that I felt like they were acting great in two different movies on the same screen. Outside of the "processing" part and the odd ending song that Hoffman sings Phoenix to tears, I actually don't feel that strong of a connection between the two. Independently, probably Oscar worthy performances...

The characters are good strong and well represented. But I don't think the premise of the movie is there for me...there's no gauge as to what this cult/religion is or what it represents...and that's fine if it's left intentionally vague and I'm too uncultured to understand or if it's such a dead ringer for Scientology that it is meant to represent it in terms of volume, fine, I'll accept that...but there's such a strong commitment to a couple of very un-well characters that the movie loses me plot wise...not because it's hard to follow, but because it never approaches anything...not even a checkpoint is hit, much less a finish line...
