since the first? If I'm remembering correctly, there hasn't been a good one yet (minus the cartoon movie)

How the **** is Bumblebee at 98% on RT after 45 reviews? There's only one negative review and the average rating is 7.5/10. Is it as simple as removing Bay from the director's chair?
they replaced him with someone who knows how to tell a story for kids and adults, so I'm sure that's a big plus. Until you said something, I would have had zero interest in it, but now after reading some things, I've perked up. A lot of those reviews said they finally got what you liked about the original cartoon right.
Full Disclosure: Dark of the Moon and Age of Extinction are probably two of my top five "guilty pleasure/still enjoy despite being BAD" movies. In Dark of the Moon, Alan Tudyk & John Turtorro more than make up for Shai LeBeouf randomly yelling through a script and I kind of dug the whole invasion of Chicago sequence. Age of Extinction is...OK. Like I said, if I want to put on a movie and not have to think for a couple of hours, it's fine. I can even sit through The Last Knight because I like Anthony Hopkins.

That said, the fact that Bay wasn't involved with Bumblebee immediately won me over because Bay could barely tell a story for kids, let alone adults. I never really got his humor in any of these movies, and I have to imagine most of the "name" actors he got in these took the role because it was an easy paycheck.

The trailer for Bumblebee sold me on it. The re-design of the Transformers back to the look of the toy lines I grew up with tugged at the old nostalgia heartstrings, so I'm pretty excited to see it.

The review I saw for Bumblebee said it was by far the best Transformers movie since the first but... It's basically the exact plot of ET.

Isn't there only 36 plots or something like that?

Just quoting the review, I haven't seen any of the current series.

looking back, I think I only saw the first one (which was bad) and didn't make it far into the 2nd one (which was worse). I see I'm way behind as their appears to be 2 more.

Still wrong!

Transformers - 2007
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - 2009
Transformers: Dark of the Moon - 2011
Transformers: Age of Extinction - 2014
Transformers: Ther Last Knight - 2017

The last two of course starred Mark Wahlberg. I liked the first one, thought the second was trash, thought the third was just but better trash than the second. Didn't bother seeing the Wahlberg movies.

I went and saw The Mule on Friday night. It was good - not great - but was about what I expected. Definitely not Gran Torino-level Eastwood but still pretty good. The story develops slowly... there's obvious 'forced' plot scenes, but overall I enjoyed it.

Clint Eastwood is 88 years old. Still acting, directing, and producing. Hell, he probably scored the damn movie. Incredible!

watched about the first half of ROMA last night. If pretty slow-moving wide angle shots of people washing dishes, turning off lights and male frontal nudity with little to no dialogue, plot, and score is your thing, then this movie is your masterpiece!

I rarely turn off a movie, but I don't know if I'll finish this one up. We kept waiting for something to happen and while it sure does look gorgeous and there is a sense of something about to happen I don't know if I can watch the 2nd half if it's just more of the same thing.

I'm sure Will Smith will kill it, but he looks strange.

 Well, there it is. There's the Disney live action adaptation that will finally kill future Disney live action adaptations. Why is the genie just Will Smith in a Party City halloween costume? Why is Aladdin in his mid-40s with a 5 o'clock shadow? This looks like one of those live musicals on Fox.

Agree that Will Smith looks weird and I'm a little concerned how they handle his singing or rapping? Naomi Scott was good in Power Rangers.

The Aladdin leads are 25 and 27 years old, which is overshooting things by a decade.

I am reminded of the casting of The Birdcage, which imo is the only thing that keeps that from being a Perfect Movie in my reckoning. Dan Futterman as Val looks like he's in his third year of residency, not a 20-year old sophomore undergrad. Which is funny, because Calista Flockhart, as Barbara Keeley, is actually three years older than Futterman, but you never question her age appropriateness for the character, who is actually two years younger than Val. So she's able to pull of a five-year swing in large part because Val is so not believable.

Well that's much younger than he looks. But yeah, Disney's Aladdin is 18 (and Jasmine is 15... hmm).
