Recently saw the 1970 movie Ned Kelly which had Mick Jagger as the lead. He did a good job as the late 1800's Australian outlaw. It was kind of an Aussie western which seemed to follow the facts although it stuck to the Kelly clan's version of disputed incidents.

Whoa! And just over a year-and-a-half away? That sounds ambitious.

Week or so ago I saw The Last Waltz which I'd seen years ago. It's a documentary of the 1976 farewell concert of The Band. It was done by an obviously younger Martin Scorcese (longer black hair and beard). I learned that he used his camera men from Taxi driver and another one of his flicks from that era. Performers included Dylan as you'd expect along with 70's well knowns Staple Singers, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Muddy Waters, Emmylou Harris. I think it did a good job of capturing 1970's atomosphere along with good live performances
Evidently, Neil Young had coke residue on his nose that they had to edit out...

Fences had some great performances. Not sure why they bothered shooting on location though. They could've just filmed the play with the exact same results. I wish they would've taken advantage of the medium more.

Arrival was my favorite of the best picture noms I've seen so far.

Thought this was pretty awesome. As someone who loved watching Mega Movie Magic every Saturday morning as a kid I've always loved the truth behind movie effects.

I watched No Country for Old Men over the weekend. As far as I'm concerned, that movie is a masterpiece. That is a terrifying experience and I love how it close it follows the book.

I was listening to Curtis Mayfield on Pandora and it played a song called Across 110th Street by Bobby Womack, which was from a film of the same name. I thought that song was awesome (in the Shaft/Trouble Man/Superfly tradition) so I looked up the movie.

Pretty good early 70s crime drama. It seems to be lumped in with the blaxploitation films, but I think it was a vibe closer to Dirty Harry than Coffy.

Yeah...it's ok. Works better as a straight crime film.

Bobby Womack radio is one of my favorite pandora channels, love his songs. Also good use of it in Jackie Brown.

They just did a How Did this Get Made podcast on this. I was excited. But it was mediocre. That podcast has gone off the rails.

The source of these rumors is a Youtuber who himself said not to take his own report seriously.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised at all if Affleck wants out. The DC Universe is a **** mess that only Zack Snyder could enjoy.

It looks awesome. I tried to convince my lady friend that we should see that instead of 50 shades of dark. To no avail.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Affleck wants out. He swore off comic book movies after Daredevil, WB convinced him to do Batman, and everything has been a shitshow ever since. He had completely rebuilt his career, highlighted by The Town (94% RT), Argo (96%), and Gone Girl (88%). Since then he's had BvS (27%), The Accountant (51%), Suicide Squad (26%), and Live By Night (34%), for which the entire press tour turned into questions about his solo Batman movie, which he decided he no longer wanted to direct. The DCEU is a mess and seems to be dragging him down with it. If he does quit after his solo Batman movie I have zero idea what the hell DC/WB is going to do. Less than 4 years into their shared universe they'll have lost their biggest star who is playing their most popular character and all they'll have to show for it is a slate of horribly reviewed movies.

As a fan I thought Affleck was a good casting decision, but really never understood their desire to come off an extremely successful trilogy of Batman movies by focusing on Batman near the end of the line so they could shoehorn a sloppy adaptation of The Dark Night Returns into a suddenly shared universe with Superman. Re-starting with a young Batman (but with no need for an origin story) would have allowed DC/WB to build a universe around two young stars playing their two biggest heroes. Building a shared universe didn't have to be a Marvelesque slow burn, but at least a younger Batman would have allowed you the time to actually make movies about Batman. Now they're facing the prospect of Batman Beyonding with Terry McGinnis (which would be awesome if they did it well but lets be real they won't) or hitting the reset button on the whole damn thing.

I'll probably get around to seeing them all, but Manchester by the Sea looks like it's going to give me the most trouble watching.
You're probably right. But I'm still recommending it.

Somewhat related -- you ever see Blue Valentine? If so, thoughts?
