Agreed. They never failed to make me smile. I think the baseball furies were my favorites. The Warriors is amazing. The corniness and the over the top, ridiculous gangs are what makes the movie work so well.

Probably my favorite movie of all time. Certainly one of my favorite quotes of all time ("Of course it hurts...") When we watched it for movie club last year, I actually watched it twice and watched all of the BTS stuff I could find (which itself was probably close to three hours).Yes and yes.
Speaking of long movies, I'm finally getting around to watching Lawrence of Arabia. Obviously, it's a great film.
There aren't a lot of movies that can make the hair stand up on the back of your neck with a single camera shot or picture edit, but Lawrence is one of them.

Sounds like Streets of Fire would be a good one to throw on after theseI watched a few classics (or "classics") that somehow slipped by me all these years. The Warriors, Savage Streets, The Outsiders. All pretty good flicks. The Outsides was probably the weakest of the bunch. Coppola's directing did the material (which was admittedly ham-fisted) no favors. Savage Streets was delightfully exploitative. The Warriors was a little corny at times, but a good time.

All I remember from Streets of Fire was Dan Hartman's song "I can dream about you"
I always forget he was a white dude (RIP). The original video is cut from the film with a black soul/R&B group.
Speaking or race issues, American Fiction was very good. Lots to unpack in that film.

I thought American Fiction was fine. There certainly wasn’t anything subtle about it and I feel like the first draft of the film definitely had the main character as a screenwriter rather than novelist. Performances were solid, message was good, the family dynamic was the most interesting part with the “F*ck” story coming in a distant second. Bamboozled did it better, imo.

I'll have to see if it's streaming anywhere. Right now I'm getting ready to watch Class of 1984. Another one I haven't seen.

I watched The Beekeeper last night. Super dumb flick. That said, I could watch Jason Statham kick everyone's ass in anything.

Saw this trailer in the theater, and it looks terrific on the big screen.

My wife is home sick with a stomach bug. I'm working from home in the back of the house. She asked me to come to the living room to watch Cinderella with her. She fell asleep 10 minutes in and now I'm sitting here watching Cinderella by myself.

Super bowl trailers:
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes looks great. I recently rewatched that trilogy and it's so good. The poster for Kingdom, however, is not so good.
A sequel nobody asked for. The first movie is cheesy but it's fun because the characters are charismatic and memorable. I know it's hard to judge character from a trailer, but these guys feel pretty generic here.
Cautiously optimistic for this one. Not a big Ariana Grande fan but the Land of Oz looks great and Jeff Goldblum is perfect casting. It does look like we'll get Defying Gravity in this one. Yes, it's two parts and yes that's very stupid.

I'm not a Wicked fan, but I thought that trailer looked pretty great. Mrs Tif is a big Wicked fan, and she was sort of googly-eyed at it.

(I don't mean I dislike it, just that one or two songs aside I have no familiarity with the musical at all.)

Wicked is a damn near perfect first act and an incredibly forgettable second act (other than "For Good"). Which makes the decision to split it into two films baffling to me, especially if it's split by the musical acts.
The second act is also pretty light on story and I'm guessing this is where the film will most stray from the musical. I wouldn't be surprised if we get a lot more Wizard of Oz here.

Just watched “The Sting” with Paul Newman and Robert Redford. Great movie. I’ve gotta watch more of these classics.

One thing that always got me about The Sting is that there's some boobies and the term "n____ lover" in the first three minutes of the movie, and it's rated PG haha

By the way, if you want it to Wicked will enhance Wizard of Oz and add some dimension to the Wicked Witch's character. And if you don't want it to, you can just ignore it and be a friend of Dorothy.

There was a period of several years in the late-60s into the 70s when movie ratings were...... let's just say "in flux".

I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that Poltergeist and Gremlins were basically the "reason" for why PG 13 became a thing.
Up until then a movie was PG if it didn't contain excessive profanity and gore.

That's pretty much how I remember it (and I lived it, man). And then like the very first PG-13 movie was Temple Of Doom where a guy has his still-beating heart ripped out of his chest. lolI believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that Poltergeist and Gremlins were basically the "reason" for why PG 13 became a thing.
