At first I thought it was a Project Hail Mary rip off but Spaceman of Bohemia came out in 2017 and PHM was 2021.

Every time I look at it, I see the 2 hours and 40 minutes run time and I pass. Might have to carve out some time for it.I finally watched Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

You won't be disappointed. I had no idea it was that long, and honestly it ends too soon.Every time I look at it, I see the 2 hours and 40 minutes run time and I pass. Might have to carve out some time for it.I finally watched Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

It's a good "hang out" movie. I don't know the beef Tarantino has with Bruce Lee, but aside from that, it's a fun world to live in.

I feel like that's the case for most years, really. Just gotta look between the margins yourself.Last night was my first exposure to a lot of less mainstream titles from the last year, and I have to say there were some bonkers-ass movies in 2023.

I loved the "vibe" of Once Upon a Time. Like you got a feel of what it was to live in LA back in the late 60s, and I was sorry I missed it.
And Austin Butler doesn't sound like Elvis either

I need to rewatch it because I thought it was next to Death Proof as QT’s weakest film.

I watched The Good Shepherd last night. Matt Damon, Robert DeNiro (who also directed), William Hurt, Angelina Jolie starred in this history of the CIA.
First of all, most of the characters were composite characters for some reason. Damon's lead character was supposed to be James Jesus Angleton, who headed up the OSS and CIA's counterintelligence units into the 1970s. There is a Dulles character (Hurt) and a Wild Bill Donovan character (DeNiro). Joe Pesci, who came out of retirement (again), plays a fake mob boss, and Billy Crudup plays a fake Kim Philby (with a terrible accent). It's very strange to do this because the actual story of the OSS/CIA's creation is a fascinating one and is in the public record. Why create a whole fake bunch of characters when the real names and people are better? Even in 2006, most if not all of the principal characters would have been long dead. Oh, Eddie Redmayne is in it and plays Matt Damon's son.
Angelina Jolie was wasted in the film, playing a cuckolded housefrau. I had forgotten how much of a force she was on screen, just instantly lifting the her early scenes with the dour Matt Damon.
Anyway, it's far from the worst movie I've seen but it could have been a lot better.

never realized Blade 2 was directed by Del Toro. It was always my favorite Blade film but I rewatched it last night and I never really watched the film before with a critical eye beyond it being fun but I was pleasantly impressed at how well the film is made overall. It has some obvious early 2000s CGI moments but they’re not that bad (especially compared to the first one) and the fight scenes are pretty high quality
It upsets me that the Blade movies are mostly cult films compared to the post-Iron Man super hero movies because the Blade films have a ton of character to them

My thoughts on the blade trilogy, summarized at the end of this scene from the criminally underrated TV show Man Seeking Woman:

It's a........... very familiar concept, but I thought the trailer looked immensely silly. And I mean that in a good way.

Hate-watched "The Fanatic" yesterday...it's a Fred Durst (yup) written and directed piece starring John Travolta as a mentally challenged horror movie fan obsessed with one actor in particular...and just wants his autograph. It's among the worst writing I've experienced...but it took itself very seriously...I think it was going for a Sin City/Shawshank type of track, but falls 10 out of 10 short of those. It's not even that enjoyable like other trainwrecks like "The Room", it's just a bad movie that makes little sense.
I believe I read that it was in over 50 theatres nationwide and grossed $3.1 thousand dollars...that seems about fair for the quality of movie. It checks in at like 85 minutes, so it goes down easy time-wise...

I forget exactly, but I think it was a rabbit hole from looking up Nic Cage movies (the missus and I really love his over-the-top lack of talent), which led me to Face/Off which led me to ol' tub o' guts Travolta. And in my scrolling was probably like, "wait...that Fred Durst...?"
