Yeah this is being held up as one of the defining photos of the week, and it screams of misrepresentation. There are plenty of police/National Guard that are behaving badly, but stuff like this is just awful.

There's a video I saw on Twitter being passed around. A 5 second clip of Philly police arresting a suspect with him on the ground. No context provided. The suspect screams I can't breathe and the officer responds "That **** don't work around here." Visually a bad image.
Until you realize the camera is over 40 feet away and the suspect is heard louder than the cop.

It really is incredible to me that during protests about police over-reactions and over-aggression, they continue to be overly reactive and overly aggressive.

Yeah, the sad part is watching every single officer there just do nothing. I'm sure "most" officers being good is still an accurate statement but imo seeing everything this past week it's a smaller amount of good than I thought before this week.It really is incredible to me that during protests about police over-reactions and over-aggression, they continue to be overly reactive and overly aggressive.

Why Abusive Cops So Often Keep Their Jobs
https://mises.org/wire/why-abusive-cops ... their-jobs

Mark Iris, a researcher at Northwestern, studied years’ worth of police arbitration decisions in Chicago and Houston and found that in both cities arbitrators overturned disciplinary decisions half the time. Tyler Adams analyzed every published arbitration decision regarding a police officer’s discharge between 2011 and 2015, finding them overturned 46.7 percent of the time. One notable finding from Adams’s research is that an officer’s disciplinary record was raised by one or both parties in nearly every analyzed decision, with those with positive work histories being more likely to be reinstated than those who without them. A potential difficulty with this is that many police union contracts require that misconduct be removed from an officer’s record after a certain period. According to Stephen Rushin’s analysis of one hundred seventy-eight of the largest cities’ police union contracts, eighty-seven (including Minneapolis’s) contain such provisions. Some, such as that of Columbus, Ohio, even prohibit the use of an officer’s history as a factor in determining the propriety of disciplinary action in later investigations.

Video: Richmond Police Pepper Spray Man In His Home Through Window

Video footage over the weekend shows Richmond police officers pepper spraying a man who was in his apartment, shortly after having sprayed three other people on the street. No verbal warnings are given on the clip, and the man says the video was shot pre-curfew in the early a.m. hours of Sunday.
Although Richmond Police have not responded to VPM’s request for comment, a spokesperson for the department told CBS 6 they are aware of the video and are investigating the incident.
Mikhail Smith captured the video. He was inside his home early Sunday after protesting Saturday night, when he saw the group of Richmond police officers pepper spray the three women outside his window.
“They sprayed them in the face unnecessarily multiple times,” Smith said. “This was Saturday night. There was no curfew in place. They were not breaking any laws.”
He yelled at the officers, and then one of them pointed his pepper spray towards Smith and sprayed him through the window. Smith says the spray reached both him and his girlfriend, causing them to cough and feel like their faces were burning.

It's cute how the two officers reposition themselves to try and obscure it from the guy with the camera.

That's a sickening sound.

It's entirely possible I'm imagining this, and fabricating a narrative in my head. But it seems like in the last couple years, there are a lot of police misconduct videos that show that kind of behavior. Not just the officers creating a line-of-sight obstruction, but detainments happening more closely to things that can obscure sight lines. The Floyd incident, for example; they take him to ground next to a parked car removed from where things first escalated.
I don't know if that's normal and for whatever reason I'm just noticing it more, or if there has been an actual increase in that kind of procedural conduct.
